The stars of the Australian boyband have written a number of tunes for the rival group, which is due to take a break from music in March (16) following the end of a tour and the release of their fifth album in November (15).

One Direction's members are expected to dabble with solo careers during the break, and 5 Seconds of Summer singer Luke Hemmings has offered to help Niall put an album together.

"We've written for One Direction before and he's a good dude," Hemmings tells British newspaper the Daily Star. "They are very talented so we would love to get involved."

Niall has previously assured fans the band's upcoming break does not signal a permanent split.

"Lots of rumours going round," he wrote in posts on Twitter.com. "We are not splitting up, but we will be taking a well earned break at some point next year. Don't worry though, we still have lots we want to achieve! Can't wait for you to hear all the new music we have for you and to perform some new songs as the tour continues! Love you all."
