Crime caper American Hustle has proved a big hit Down Under after scoring seven nominations for the upcoming international leg of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.

The film is leading the International Aacta nominations, with acting nods for its stars Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence, while also landing a directing mention for David O. Russell.

American Hustle will compete for the coveted Aacta International Award For Best Film along with Captain Phillips, Gravity, Rush and 12 Years a Slave, which is another big contender with six nominations.

The only Australian film to land a mention is The Great Gatsby, which scored nods for director Baz Luhrmann and actor Joel Edgerton.

However, the movie previously dominated the domestic Aacta nominations with 14 nods.

The International Aacta awards will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 10 January (14), while its sister show will take place in Sydney, Australia on 30 January (14).
