AC/DC Aren't Retiring After All, It's Just One Band Member

Finally, after three whole days of unchecked speculation online, AC/DC have spoken out about their rumored split. Frontman Brian Johnson spoke to the telegraph earlier this week and now the band have released an official statement. The statement mostly concerns guitarist Malcolm Young, whose ill health is forcing him into an indefinite hiatus. AC/DC as an entity, however, are still active and will continue to tour and perform without interruption.

“After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health,” the Facebook post begins. “Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support.”

After 48 hours of speculation, Johnson was the first to speak out, clearing up the rumors about Young’s poor health and confirming that the band will not be splitting up, but that one member was unfortunately suffering from ill health.

While Johnson remained tight-lipped about which member of the legendary group was sick, multiple anonymous sources indicated that it was Young, with Choirboys frontman Mark Gable, a personal friend of Young’s, telling ABC Radio that the guitarist is unwell and unable to record or tour.

Brian Johnson cleared up the situation earlier this week.

However, Johnson left no doubt about the matter – AC/DC are planning to record new music in May, regardless of Young’s condition. For The Telegraph, he said: “We are definitely getting together in May in Vancouver. We’re going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas.”
