Katy Perry Launches Metamorphosis Music - What It Means For Her First Signee, Ferras

Katy Perry Ferras Adam Levine

Forget “Orange.” Having your own record label is the new black, at least if you’re already an established artist. First it was Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, whose label 222 Records recently signed a partnership deal with Interscope Records the other week, and a few days ago it was announced that Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz would be relaunching his Decaydance Records under a new name. Somebody else is joining the club now, and it’s pop superstar Katy Perry. Perry’s new label distributed by Capitol Records, called Metamorphosis Music, already has its first signee as well, as it was announced on June 17 that she had signed pop singer Ferras.

“I am so ECSTATIC to finally announce my NEW label Metamorphosis Music & my first signing, the incredibly talented & soulful FERRAS!,” Perry tweeted about the signing. Ferras also released his new single this week, which of course features Katy Perry herself, called ‘Legends Never Die.’ It’s off his new EP which also was released this past Tuesday, too. Who is Ferras anyway? Though he may be unknown, he released a record back in 2008 that was produced by popular production duo The Matrix. Additionally, you may have heard his stuff before: he co-wrote the track ‘Aftermath’ for Adam Lambert, and one of his songs was even the exit song on the seventh season of 'American Idol.'

Christina Aguilera & Cee Lo Green Are Back With A Vengeance In 'The Voice' Season Opener

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Blake Shelton Adam Levine

The quest to find America's next singing sensation is on, and we've got two familiar faces returning to the fifth season of The Voice to boot, as Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green made their triumphant returns to the hit series. And now, with the show earning it's very first Emmy win, for 'Best Reality Competition,' the pressure was on for the season opener to deliver, and you better believe that it did.

Christina Aguilera
Christina was back, and arguably came away from the opening night with the best performer.

Season five's opening episode wasn't just a blast because we got to see Christina, Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton back together again, although admittedly that was pretty great, but more because the first round of acts were some of the best singers the show has ever had! Maybe it had something to do with the return of the Holy Alliance, or maybe it was to do with the night's 'Rock 'n' Roll' theme, who knows maybe the just put something in the water, but last night (23 Sept.) the blind auditions were out of this world.

As The Voice Enters It's Final Stage, Is There A Clear Winner In Sight?

Usher Blake Shelton Adam Levine Shakira

The Voice has nearly finished with it's successful fourth season, with the final three now battling it out for the coveted crown being given out by NBC, but decided on by the American public. Monday (June 17) night's show featured more than just performances from the contestants as the season looks to make it's cinematic end, but regardless of the treats on offer the real attention was of course of the final three.

Show judge Usher has already dubbed Michelle Chamuel 'the winner' of this season of the hit singing competition, but Usher's word does not guarantee success and for Chamuel, the race is still on for the prize. Fellow judge Blake Shelton is one person who doesn't rate Chamuel and he is still backing Zach and Colton Swon to take the crown and after their triumphant rendition of 'Danny's Song' before the judge made the duo into a three-piece for a version of Brad Paisley's 'Celebrity.' Even if you don't like country it was hard not to admit that the shaw was something special.

Blake's other entry into the final three, Danielle Bradbery, proved her worth to the panel too, with Adam Levine and Shakira both singling her out as the most impressive performer of the night. "I think Danielle's the winner of this thing," Levine told her after the rendition of Maybe it was Pam Tillis' 'Memphis.' They weren't the only ones who thought highly of Bradbery's performances either and by the end of the night her coach Shelton told the hopeful, "I'm one of the millions of people out there that you have wrapped around your finger. I just thank God that you came to The Voice to debut yourself."

The Voice: Who Went Home And Who Made It To The Final?

Usher Adam Levine Blake Shelton Shakira

It’s semifinals week on The Voice, oh goodie! Anticipation was abundant before last night’s show – who would leave, which judges’ teams would get to compete in the finale, is it going to be all-women or all-country? Once again, the iTunes chart provided some clue as to the rankings. The show kicked off with a performance by Fall Out Boy (who still exist as a band, apparently.) They performed their My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark and were joined by Michelle Chamuel, whose role in the whole performance seemed to be mostly nominal, since her voice was barely audible throughout.

Then, after an emotionally charged performance by season 3 finalist Nicholas David, at last it came time to announce the lucky members if the inner circle for this season – starting, predictably, with Michelle herself. This means that both team Usher and team Country will be represented at the final.

The second act to continue to finals was Blake's Danielle Bradbery, followed, at the very last minute by The Swon Brothers. This of course means that Team Shakira’s Sasha Allen and Team Adam’s Amber Carrington were sent home this week. So the results matched the iTunes charts pretty well and the finale is shaping up to be a tense one. Did the semifinal fit your predictions?

A Week In Music - Alicia Keys Is On Fire, Professor Green Engineers Return And The Rolling Stones Threaten Glastonbury Black Out

Alicia Keys

A Week In Reviews... This week saw 14-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys head to the UK for a series of dates, and boy did it seem that the girl really was on fire. A storming appraisal from us here at Contactmusic, for her show in Manchester proved that Keys hasn't lost her spark over 16 years in the game."If one thing's for certain tonight it's that Alicia Keys is the perfect crossover star, with an old school approach to music and a new school approach to showmanship; the girl really is on fire" we reckoned.

Meanwhile, across the Pennines in Leeds, Mercury-nominated Ghostpoet was in town to perform plenty of new material. However, there was plenty to take in for both fans old and new, with Contactmusic's Joe Wild writing "Whilst the show was unquestionably a vehicle to promote his new material, the MC did sprinkle some Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam favourites into the set-list, such as 'Liiines' and 'Cash and Carry Me Home' to keep the faithful fans happy. But it was the renditions of newbies 'Dial Tones,' 'MSI MusmiD' and new single 'Meltdown' that really got the crowd amped and responding to his metaphor-laden lyrics and urban-decay-inspired beats."

Adam Levine Defends His 'Anti-America' Comments, Saying He Doesn't Always Think Before He Speaks

Adam Levine

Adam Levine is a proud American, but even the proudest of Americans - and the proudest of any nationalist throughout the globe for that matter - must get a little fed up with their country from time to time when they have been foiled in their quest for reality TV success.

The Maroon 5 man has taken more than a little bit of criticism when he was heard muttering "I hate this country" under his breath after his two most promising performers - Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons - were eliminated from the last round of the competition this week. The singing competition judge pleaded his case in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, which is due to air this Sunday (June 2).

"I'm very much okay with who I am and comfortable in my skin enough to embrace that even though I don't say everything the right way and you know, tend to be a bit impulsive with some of the words that I select," the 34-year-old revealed in his plea. He then went on to say in the interview, which was recorded before his slip of the tongue, that he is often "impulsive" when it comes to speaking, and can often commit to saying something without thinking it through first.

Adam Levine Tweets Americans The Definition Of 'Humorless'

Adam Levine NBC Shakira Usher Blake Shelton Maroon 5

Adam Levine made a half-apology to Americans yesterday for muttering "I hate this country" during the closing credits of The Voice. We say half-apology because the Maroon 5 took to Twitter to post dictionary definitions of the words "humourless," "lighthearted," "joke" and "misunderstand." Hmm.

In fairness to Levine, his remarks really were pretty throw-away and he was obviously upset that two of his three acts had been eliminated from the NBC singing contest - one of them, Judith Hill, had been the favorite for weeks. The pop singer also released a statement through NBC which classifies that he really doesn't hate America. "I obviously love my country very much and my comments last night were made purely out of frustration," Levine said. "Being a part of The Voice, I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed."

Levine added that the elimination of two of his acts was "confusing and downright emotion," and that his remarks were based on "personal dissatisfaction with the results," adding, "I am very connected to my artists and know they have long careers ahead, regardless of their outcome on the show."

The Voice's Adam Levine: "I Hate This Country" [Video]

Adam Levine Blake Shelton Shakira Usher

Adam Levine's "I hate this country" remark on The Voice last night has elicited a whole wave of responses on Twitter. The Maroon 5 man was stunned that two of his three remaining singers - Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons - were voted off the show despite being considered frontrunners. This was a terrible decision, and Levine knew it.

A close-by microphone caught Levine muttering his hatred for the American public, which some fans of the show claim will decrease his chances of winning with his one remaining act. Ryan Cooney wrote on Twitter, "Adam Levine just said "I hate this country" on TV... Not a smart move dude, not smart at all. #america."

It's hardly surprising that Levine had a dig at the American public - Judith Hill was easily the most talented singer in the final 8 - though the singer will struggle to salvage his reputation on the show with touchy television viewers. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Amy Reiter offered a potential explanation for Judith's elimination, "...it could also have been that Hill was almost too polished, too much of a pro. She'd sung a duet with Michael Jackson. Her parents were well-connected musicians. She already had the bearing of a superstar - seemed already to have arrived.  What did she need us for?"

The Voice: Why On Earth Didn't You Vote For Judith Hill Or Sarah Simmons?

Adam Levine NBC Blake Shelton Usher Shakira

It was another shock result on NBC's The Voice this week, with two of the clear frontrunners getting eliminated despite strong performances. Unfortunately for Adam Levine, it was both his acts Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons who got the boot, despite being tipped to reach the final, reports E! Online.

Hill, a former backing singer for Michael Jackson, was considered the one to beat since her opening audition, while Simmons had wowed the American public with her soulful tone and consistent performances. The shocking results leaves Team Adam with just one act, Amber Carrington, while Team Blake retains Danielle Bradbery, Holly Tucker and The Swon Bothers. Shakira has just one act left, Sasha Allen, while Usher has one too, Michelle Chamuel. It's looking increasingly like that Blake Shelton will field at least one singer for the grand finale, probably Holly. The Voice audience have really taken to the country singers on the latest season.

Adam Levine may have hurt his one remaining act's chances after a microphone caught him grumbling, "I hate this country!" upon learning that American hadn't voted for Judith or Sarah. The Maroon 5 man was probably joking, though there's some pretty touchy television viewers out there.

Usher Brings 'The Voice' Audience To Climax After Stripping Down!

Usher Shakira Adam Levine Blake Shelton

Take note ladies, all it takes to get Usher to start stripping down is a cover of the Backstreet Boys and a broken air conditioning unit. At least that how it looks as the singer was forced to strip down during last nights (May 13) edition of The Voice, in what was probably the highlight of a still impressive show.

The singer was so taken by Garrett Gardner's rendition of 'I Want It That Way' by the Backstreet Boys that he had to take off a few layers until he was just in a vest and his trousers. Well, that and because the A/C unit was broken in the studio, but the acts on last night's show were hot that we wouldn't be surprised if it was a joint effort between the remaining acts and the A/C.

Although it was Shakira's Gardner that had Usher taking his top off, it was actually the 'Climax' singer's team that looked to have finished the night more impressively. Whilst Josiah Hawley crooned a Script cover and Michelle Chamuel won praise for her rendition of 'Call Your Girlfriend,' it was Vedo's song and dance routine to  Michael Jackson‘s 'Rock With You' that really impressed.

Maroon 5 Already Have Some 'Great Songs' Written For Their Next Album

Maroon 5 Adam Levine Kelly Clarkson

Maroon 5 are one of those bands that just don't know when to slow down, and the constantly at work boy band are as busy as ever it would seem following the announcement that they are already a few songs into the follow-up to last years Overexposed album. He told AP that the album is still in the early stages but they are excited for people to hear to songs nonetheless. He said,"We're just getting started. We've got some great songs in the can."

Maroon 5's Adam Levine Will Be The Latest Star To Take A Shot At Hosting SNL

Adam Levine

SNL has always strived to make things more lively and interesting with various guest hosts and after Jennifer Lawrence took the wheel last week for quite a funny (in a good way) go at hosting, it is now Adam Levine’s turn.

The Maroon 5 frontman has already been on SNL as a musical guest along with his band, but this will be both his first solo performance as well as his first comedy gig, but it actually won’t be the first time he’s taken to acting. Levine recently ended his term on American Horror Story, where he played Leo and although the part wasn’t all too challenging and didn’t really involve a lot of speaking, the singer managed to impress director and cast with his “natural charisma”. Of course, charisma is one thing and improve skills are in a whole different league altogether, but Levine will certainly need both to pass the live show test with flying colors.

Regardless, we, like many a Maroon 5 fangirl have a soft spot for the doe-eyed falsetto vocalist, so fingers are firmly crossed that he gets the tone right and it ends up being actually funny. Surely, the hosting gig will include a couple of musical numbers, but during the show, Levine will also step down a couple of times, giving up the stage to an entirely different musical guest – rap's current golden boy Kendrick Lamar. Now, if that isn’t an odd mix, we don’t know what is!

Man Behind Manti Te'o Death Hoax Suspected Of Spinning Lies On 'The Voice'

Blake Shelton Adam Levine Shakira Usher

The man who is alleged to have been the mastermind behind Manti Te’o’s imaginary girlfriend reportedly auditioned to be on The Voice. According to US Weekly, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo spun an elaborate and tragic story, about his cousins dying, which producers now suspect may have been a lie, in light of his apparent involvement in the ‘dead girlfriend’ story.

Ronaiah Tuiasosopo allegedly told the show’s producers that he had started a Christian band, together with his cousins, but that they died in a “massive car crash” on the way to a youth conference in Nevada. According to Ronaiah, a truck crashed into their vehicle and sent the family members sprawling across the freeway. Miraculously, he claims, they were all fine, despite doctors fearing that one of them could be brain-dead. According to the inside, Ronaiah Tuiasosopo had taken the same background check and psych evaluation that all contestants go through and nothing out f the ordinary had cropped up. In light of the Manti Te’o death hoax, though, people are starting to think that he could have been making this up as well.

Luckily for the producers, his journey on the show ended there. He tried to impress the judges – Shakira, Adam Levine, Usher and Blake Shelton with his version of Matisyahu’s ‘One Day’ but they were unimpressed. “No one turned their chair around,” the insider confirmed.

Mick Jagger Rolling Stones David Letterman Maroon 5 Christina Aguilera Adam Levine Kesha Cher Lloyd

Mick Jagger has finally broken his silence on the subject of Maroon 5's number one hit 'Moves Like Jagger' and revealed that he didn't get paid anything for his reference in the song.

The Rolling Stones lead vocalist appeared for an interview on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' and, to the viewers' amusement, produced a list entitled: 'Top Ten Things I, Mick Jagger, Have Learned After 50 Years In Rock 'n' Roll'. On the list was a light-hearted dig at Maroon 5's song 'Moves Like Jagger' featuring Christina Aguilera, the video of which begins with footage of Jagger in his younger years and later shows singer Adam Levine trying out some of the famous dance moves. Jagger had written on his list that he had learned that "You don't earn a cent when someone does a song about having moves like Jagger." The music legend also drew laughs from his other advice which included, "Be considerate of other hotel guests - trash your room by 10 pm" and, "Before shouting 'Hi Seattle!' make sure you're in Seattle."

'Moves Like Jagger' is not the first number one hit that has referenced the star; he has also been mentioned in Ke$ha's 'TiK ToK' ('We kick em to the curb unless they look like Mick Jagger') and Cher Lloyd's 'Swagger Jagger'.

Okay, so he didn’t use the words big or expensive but he definitely said the rest. And we reckon it was probably dead expensive, that video. It looks very slick.

“The video is kind of abstract; it's kind of metaphoric in a sense, like the paranoia of feeling like we're being chased,” says Eminem, who probably has been chased before. By police. And women. Maybe dogs. “Whether it's true or not, it's kind of how we feel. It's kind of a metaphor for us running for our lives. Personal lives and from fame, everything that goes with the game.” Ah, ‘the game.’ We love it when rappers talk about ‘the game.’ No one has a clue what they’re on about but it’s very important to them so it must be respected at all times. Compared to their collaborations in the past, ‘My Life’ is pretty personal. “Me and Fif can probably go on forever talkin' about our lives,” said Eminem, though we reckon that an MP3 that lasted “forever” probably wouldn’t sell very well, so it’s best that they didn’t do that.

In the video, 50 Cent and Eminem play a pair of fugitives on the run from the cops, who are chasing them with helicopters. The song is taken from his forthcoming album, Street King Immortal, scheduled for release in February 2013.

Jeremy Renner Proves Tough Guys Can Be Funny During SNL Host Spot

Jeremy Renner Saturday Night Live Adam Levine

Jeremy Renner showed that he can shine where others have burnt out when the action star appeared on Saturday Night Live as last night's (Nov 17) host of the long-running comedy sketch show.

The Bourne Legacy star also had another ace up his sleeve when he showed us that not only can he do funny, and boy he can do funny, but he can even sing too! For the first skit of the show Renner discussed how he wishes that he could write and sing all the music for his films, before taking to a nearby piano and revealing one hell of a voice. To be honest, we're not sure if the first skit was even a skit at all, because that guy can sing!

Straight after that Renner and the SNL faithful sent up California natives, highlighting and lampooning all of their cliches a tee. Then, in something of a spin on the first sketch, Renner's next performance featured Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine flexing his acting muscles in a sketch that featured the two engaged in a never ending stalemate between two gun-toting gangsters. As Levine finally walks away from the awkward stand-off Renner then injected laughs once more by turning to the fellow stand-off participants he asked the: "Was that Adam Levine?"

Leave Christina Alone! Adam Levine Defends Xtina Again

Adam Levine Christina Aguilera

Colleagues and friends, Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera have been working together this past eighteen months on UK export 'The Voice' and despite certain on air spats, they actually seem to remain very close.

Last month, in response to a vast amount of criticism that Aguilera was receiving in response to her weight gain Levine was vocal in his defense of her. At the time he said, quoted in E!, "The one thing about the culture right now-celebrity culture particularly-that is so ugly is [that] people feel like they can just say nasty things about other people.she gets a lot of it.. It pisses me off. Of course I have her back, of course I defend her."

Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres he has repeated his defences. Ellen had praised him for his efforts and he said "It's a very basic thing- She should be left alone. No one should bother or haggle her about her weight or anything that she does or says. So, that's it. That's how I feel about it." Levine is currently recording for both season three and four of The Voice, which he's found somewhat confusing, especially knowing that he'll miss Christina. "The first time we [shot both series in a week] was trippy, because it wasn't the original people, but it was also a lot of fun. I remember thinking to myself, I love these guys, but just miss Cee Lo and Christina. But then I realized, it's OK because I'm going to see them in a week from now." Usher and Shakira have taken the places of Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera as the coaches in the US talent show. Series three is currently airing and series four, with the new judges, is set to return on March 25th 2013.

Awkward? Katy Perry And Russell Brand Attend Same Lakers Game

Katy Perry Russell Brand David Beckham Adam Levine Jack Nicholson Zac Efron

Katy Perry and Russell Brand's PR people are clearly no longer communicating, with the pair only just avoiding a potentially disastrous reunion this week. Both stars - who divorced earlier this year - attended the same Los Angeles Lakers season opener on Tuesday (October 30, 2012), though just happened to be seated at opposite sides of the court.

According to E! Online, there was no indication that the pair interacted, with Katy attending the game with her father. Comedian Brand sat between two unknown youngers, though later chatted with footballers David Beckham and Robbie Keane, who were there with Adam Levine and his girlfriend. Elsewhere, Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson looked as mischievous as ever - fittingly wearing a jack-o-lantern - and heartthrob Zac Efron also enjoyed the match courtside, which the Lakers lost to Dallas.

Brand and Perry married in a lavish ceremony in India in October 2010, after first meeting at the MTV Video Music Awards the previous year. Cracks in their relationship circulated right from the start, and the pair split after a year of marriage. Since their divorce, Perry has dated the Florence and the Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd and is currently with singer John Mayer.

Donald Trump Obama 'October Surprise': What Do The Celebs Think?

Donald Trump Barack Obama Jay Leno Ricky Gervais Adam Levine

A special Donald Trump announcement, which saw him promise to donate $5 million to Obama's favourite charity if the president released his college records and passport information, has been met by a less than favourable response from a few choice celebrities.

In a rare moment of genuine wit, which would probably be better applied to some of his music, Adam Levine of Maroon 5 tweeted: "Will someone tell Donald Trump we don't live in Gotham City?" And it was the micro blogging site that proved to be a breeding ground for comic responses to the frankly bizarre request from Trump; ‘The Office’ star Rainn Wilson posted, "I will pay 5 million dollars to see copies of Donald Trump's humility," while her show’s creator, Ricky Gervais tweeted, "I will give $500 to charity if Donald Trump gives up his hairdresser's passport and college records." Singer Josh Groban tweeted, "For Halloween I'm going to be Donald Trump! Gonna comb over my hair and not give 5 million dollars to charity!"

Perhaps the most important commentator on Mr. Trump is Obama himself, who of course was the subject of the odd YouTube upload. "What's this thing with Trump and you?" Leno asked on The Tonight Show, reports The L.A Times. "This all dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya," Obama responded. "We had constant run-ins on the soccer field. He wasn't very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over." We at Contact Music will give $5 to our chosen charity if Donald Trump ever says anything sensible. And that’s a promise.

How Psy’s Gangnam Style Took Over The Billboard Hot 100

Psy Maroon 5 Adam Levine Rebecca Black Christina Aguilera

Psy’s Gangnam Style – with its strange rap lyrics and crazy dance video – has jumped from No.11 to No.2 on the Billboard Hot 100, meaning it’s now truly made the transition from viral sensation to commercial powerhouse. Though the YouTube video has been viewed 285 million times, the single has now been downloaded 301,000 times, skyrocketing it up the chart and proving music fans simply aren’t happy with the video alone.

Its sales this week represented a 69 per increase, and it’s now perilously close to becoming the No.1 song in America (currently held by Maroon 5 with ‘One More Night’.) According to Billboard, the gap between the two songs is so tight that Psy could easily overtake Adam Levine and his gang on next week’s chart. It’s a sensational rise to stardom for the South Korean rapper and proof that an internet viral track (or video) can perform on the official charts too. Last year, Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’ became the most talked about song of the moment (thanks to a cringe-worthy video and even worse lyrics) though it only managed No.58 on the U.S. chart. So what’s the difference with ‘Gangnam Style’? Well, it’s probably a variety of factors though it probably boils down to the fact that pop music fans feel slightly less embarrassed about getting up and dancing to the LMFAO-esque ‘Gangnam Style’ then they did grooving along to Black’s “Friday, Friday, kicking back on Friday.”

Elsewhere on the chart this week, Christina Aguilera’s ‘Your Body’ debuted at a relatively poor No.34, having been downloaded 103,000 times.

'The Voice' Recap: Has Christina Struck Gold With The Returning Dez Duron?

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Adam Levine

The US season of The Voice powered on through another weekend with spots on the teams becoming harder to come by and more and more decent singers falling by the wayside as a result. With Christina Aguilera having recently announced that she won't be appearing on the coaching panel next year, and nor will Cee-Lo Green, it looks like she's now got a strong chance to make a winning exit after managing to nab a much-improved Dez Duron from the other coaches to put him in her team of 16.

Remember the name Dez Duron? If you were following The Voice last season you might do; he gave up college to audition for the NBC program last time out only suffer the indignity of having no coaches turned towards him. Ouch. Nevertheless, he's come on strong this year and sounded the part, whilst the judges were in no doubt about his physical prowess even before turning round, thanks to screams from more besotted members of the audience.

There was another potential contender for a final place too, according to Rolling Stone, with 17 year-old Brandon Mahone heading over to Maroon 5's Adam Levine after impressing with a soulful voice that had all four coaches putting in an offer for him. Another of Levine's picks, Michelle Brooks Thompson impressed as well. With the knockouts due to begin soon, the competition is sure hotting up.

'The Voice' Recap: 17 Year-Old Brandon Mahone Is Pick Of The Bunch

It's getting tighter and tighter as we get to the last "blind" rounds of The Voice in the USA. With a lot of the spots now taken, there were some good performers finding it a struggle on the latest edition of the show, although in spite of that there was still good news for a couple of standouts during the course of the NBC show.

Among the most impressive was 17 year-old Brandon Mahone, as well as leading female contenders Michelle Brooks-Thompson and Terisa Griffin. Whilst these first timers impressed, their stories were eclipsed by 22 year-old Dez Duron; Duron had dropped out of college to audition in the season last year but didn't manage to turn a single coach's chair. It was a different story this time for Duron though, the delighted performer seeing Blake Shelton, Cee-Lo Green and Christina Aguilera battling for his attention. Ultimately he decided to join Team Christina.

As for the 17 year-old Mahone, it was Maroon 5's Adam Levine who proved most persuasive, telling the starlet after he'd belted out The Temptations' I Wish It Would Rain that "you seem to have studied what it is to be a performer from that era to the point where you felt like one of them ... it felt like you were just the next in line." They were words Mahone couldn't help but listen to and he'll be a threat as the weeks progress.

The Voice Swaps Christina Aguilera For Shakira

Shakira Christina Aguilera Usher Cee-Lo Green Maroon 5 Adam Levine Blake Shelton

The Voice is already securing it’s mentoring line-up for the forthcoming spring season in 2013, bringing in Columbian superstar Shakira in a straight swap for Christina Aguilera.

The show, which demolished The X-Factor USA in its season premiere, has also brought in Usher for Cee Lo Green, according to Entertainment Weekly. The new additions are part of NBC’s plan to develop an “on-going tent of talent” for the show, though Aguilera is likely to return after promoting her new album. Executive producer Mark Burnett said of the new line-up, “Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour…Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans. Meanwhile, we’re incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold.” It’s probably a wise move by show bosses, who will be all too aware of the sinking ratings of The X Factor and American Idol, both of which have failed to come up with original concepts in recent years and relied too heavily on all-star judging names.

Country singer Blake Shelton and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will continue on the spring season of The Voice.

Major Shake Up Revealed With Christina Aguilera Leaving 'The Voice'

Christina Aguilera Cee-Lo Green Shakira Usher Adam Levine Blake Shelton

We're only one week into the third season NBC's The Voice, but the network is already announcing changes and they involve the departure of Christina Aguilera, as well as fellow original judge Cee-Lo Green. This season will be the last that's seen of the pair, as there is a new Aguilera album, Lotus to promote and tour, whilst Green is taking time off to work on new music and a scripted comedy about his life.

In their place? None other than Colombian singing sensation Shakira and general R'n'B superstar Usher. Not bad, as replacements go. "We are thrilled to welcome Usher and Shakira to The Voice, " Robert Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement reported by The Clicker. "The addition of these popular iconic artists continues the tradition established by Christina, Cee Lo, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. Doing two back-to-back cycles of this show requires a tremendous amount of time, and we are happy to accommodate the commitments made by Christina and Cee Lo."

Those disappointed at the news need not fear, though. Both have indicated that they will be returning to the show once they've finished with their other projects. "By pursuing my first passion of music during the break, I am also able to come back and offer even more to my team on 'The Voice' in the future," Aguilera said in a statement, whilst Green commented "Thank you, NBC, for supporting my decision to take this season four hiatus! I will return for season five and will be watching season four."

The Voice: Usher, Shakira In: Christina, Cee-Lo Out

If you thought The Voice would rest on its laurels after last season’s huge success, then you thought very, very wrong. Not content with demolishing The X-Factor USA in its season premiere, show bosses have already begun tweaking the judging line-up for the forthcoming spring season.

Christina Aguilera – perhaps the most high profile of the four mentors – is being replaced by Colombian pop princess Shakira, while Cee-Lo Green will make way for R&B star Usher, according to Entertainment Weekly. The new additions are part of NBC’s plan to develop an “on-going tent of talent” for the show, though fans of Christina and Cee-Lo shouldn’t worry too much: they haven’t been sacked. The former is releasing a new album and will go on tour, while Green is developing new music and working on a scripted comedy series based on his life – both are likely to return for a later season. Having a rotational judging line-up is an interesting concept, and executive producer Mark Burnett firmly believes that it’s the way forward, saying, “Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour…Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans. Meanwhile, we’re incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold.”

Country singer Blake Shelton and Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will continue on the spring season of The Voice – though it’s unclear whether this is through lack of work, or just because they love spinning their mechanical chairs around.

Adam Levine Reveals The Secret Of Maroon 5's Name To Billy Joel

Maroon 5 Adam Levine Billy Joel

Adam Levine, the frontman for Maroon 5, recently broke a pact with the band when he told the singer Billy Joel about the meaning behind the band's name. Until now, only the members of Maroon 5 actually knew the meaning behind the name.

The revelation only came after Joel offered to tell Levine a similar secret. In a recent interview, Levine stated, "I'm a huge Billy Joel fan. I was having dinner at Nobu in New York, and I ran into Jay-Z, who I'd just met, and he introduced me to Billy. I had to ask him, 'What do you say in the sax solo in Still Rock And Roll?, because I thought he said, 'All right, Rico.' He was astonished. He took a second and said, 'All right, Rico.'"

It was this secret that led to Levine disclosing the reason behind the band's name. He continued on to explain "Later he came over and asked, 'Where'd you get the name?' It's the stupidest, s**tiest story you've ever heard, but I had to tell him."
