The power and influence of the young British songwriter Adele shows no signs of slowing, even when it seems that there are few people left on either side of the Atlantic who have not yet bought a copy of her sophomore album 21. The 23 year old has been included in Time Magazine's list of the world's most influential people, alongside the U.S. president Barack Obama
Adele is one of a handful of Brits in the list, flying the flag for UK women, alongside Kate and Pippa Middleton, Kate's wedding dress designer Sarah Burton and the actress Tilda Swinton. According to today's Press Association report (April 19, 2012), Adele's inclusion in the list was given the thumbs up by fellow musician Pink. "Turn on any radio in the world and you will probably hear Adele" said Pink. "Go to Mars right now and I'm pretty sure, if there is life on that planet, they're playing Adele." The multi-Grammy award-winning songwriter joins the ranks of Hollywood A-listers such as Rihanna, Kristen Wiig, Viola Davis, Jessica Chastain and Claire Danes in the list.
Time Magazine Europe's editor, Catherine Mayer spoke about the joint inclusion of the Middleton sisters in the list. "The Middleton sisters are jointly on the list and the thinking behind that is that they have gone from obscurity to being among the most pictured women in the world" explained Mayer. "They say almost nothing so what we are talking about here is a particular kind of influence. It is an influence through imagery but in the world we live in, it's incredibly potent."
