Musicians, Comedians And Boston Natives Rocked TD Garden During Boston Strong Benefit

Aerosmith New Kids On The Block Boston James Taylor

Despite being put together in mere weeks, the Boston Strong concert, which took place last night at Boston’s TD Garden, was a complete success. Headlined by acts like Aerosmith (who flew in from Singapore for the occasion,) J. Geils and James Taylor, the gig had enough energy and momentum to ring as a celebration of Boston’s spirit, not a lament of the bombing, which rocked the city in April. Rolling Stone recapped the gig.

The show began, appropriately, with guitarist Tom Scholtz’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner and continued with acts like Aerosmith, New Kids On The Block, blue-collar rockers J. Geils Band ripping through enthusiastic, high energy sets, interrupted by the occasional teary-eyed moment, where appropriate. Naturally, powerhouse rockers Boston made an appearance, in keeping with the night’s theme of Bostonians helping out and performing for other Bostonians.

It was definitely a celebration of Boston’s spirit and culture, with comedian as comedian Steve Sweeney, a local legend, said before introducing the Geils Band, when people ask, "How you doin'?," locals are liable to reply, "Mind your own goddamn business, you nosy bastard!"

Aerosmith New Kids On The Block

Don Law, President of Live Nation New England has announced that the concert promoters will be hosting a charity gig for the victims of the Boston bombing and the lineup for the benefit is already growing fast. With less than a month left until the show on May 30th, acts like Aerosmith, New Kids On The Block, Jason Aldean, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffet have all signed on to perform at the charity event. The funds raised from the concert will go to the One Fund, benefiting the survivors and the families of those who died in the explosions on April 15.

Other confirmed acts include Jason Aldean, Boston, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, Carole King and New Kids on the Block. Boston native Donnie Wahlberg, of New Kids On The Block fame, commented that as a Boston Native, he was proud to do his part for the city’s recovery from the tragedy. Additional performers might be announced in the coming weeks, but the lineup for the benefit is looking pretty impressive as is. The benefit will also feature some non-musical bits, courtesy of comedians like Dane Cook and Steven Wright. The event will be held at Boston’s TD Garden and tickets will go on sale this coming Monday (May 6), ranging from $35 to $285.

Steven Tyler Admits To Spending Millions On Cocaine

Steven Tyler Aerosmith

Steven Tyler has opened up on his drug usage during his pomp as a global rock star. The Aerosmith frontman suggests he snorted “half of Peru”, according to celeb gossip site, TMZ.

Talking on Australia's "60 Minutes", Tyler said he spent loads of cash on the drug. "Probably, realistically, 5 or 6 [million], easy ... You could also say I snorted half of Peru, but, you know, it's what we did," he said. Since then, Tyler has kicked the habit, but not before it left him in a pretty bad way. He told Matt Lauer back in 2011, "I needed that cocaine. I needed it." But he said it ruined him, adding, "It took my children away, it took my marriages away. I was on my knees."

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry are among the latest inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. "Each of our 2013 inductees has been responsible for captivating the world with their creativity for decades, serving up a rich variety of songs for our global soundtrack," said Hall chairman Jimmy Webb in a release. "We are looking forward to celebrating their contributions at our Annual Awards Gala."

Aerosmith Songs Land Steven Tyler, Joe Perry In Hall Of Fame

Steven Tyler Aerosmith Joe Perry

Steven Tyler probably thought that he could receive no higher accolade than being asked to participate in the American Idol judging panel so imagine the joy that the Aerosmith frontman must have experienced when he discovered that he’d be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, along with his co-writer Joe Perry.

Associated Press broke the news that Tyler and Perry will be landed with the Hall of Fame honor for the creative prowess that he has displayed on songs such as ‘Dude Looks Like A Lady’ and ‘Love In An Elevator.’ Tyler and Perry have not always enjoyed the most harmonious of working relationships but they recently released their 15th studio album, entitled Music From Another Dimension. Joining Tyler and Perry in the Hall of Fame will be Lou Gramm and Mick Jones of Foreigner, as well as Holly Knight, JD Souther and Tony Hatch.

Holly Knight wrote the songs ‘Love Is A Battlefield’ and ‘Invincible’ for Pat Benatar as well as penning several of Tina Turner’s hits. Hatch, meanwhile, made his name by writing songs like ‘Downtown,’ for Petula Clark, during the British Invasion of the 1960s. Foreigner were among the bands at the forefront of the 80s rock ballad sound, with Jones and Gramm churning out hits like ‘I Wanna Know What Love Is’ and ‘Cold As Ice.’

Rock Star's Dementia Nearly Costs Him Career In Music

Aerosmith Kiss

Before he had a stroke and a heart attack in 2007, Dick Wagner played with rock giants such as Alice Cooper, Aerosmith and Kiss. Afterwards, it seemed as though his career in music was in serious jeopardy, Yahoo report.

Yet more tragedy would befell Wagner though, plunging his future into even further doubt, as a fall by his swimming pool precipitated a blood clot and surgery. "I woke up from a coma after two weeks with a paralyzed left arm," said Wagner, now 70 and living in Arizona. "My profession as a guitarist, I thought was over." In Wagner's case, it wasn't the initial stroke that deprived him of his musical ability, but NPH (increased pressure in the brain due to abnormal accumulation of fluids), which took away his coordination and timing. "The stroke he suffered usually produces relatively mild deficits, and over time patients are able to resume most normal activities," Dr. Joseph M. Zabramski - his neurosurgeon - said. "Dick cannot raise his left arm as well as he used to, but his fine motor function in his left hand is excellent.

Thankfully, though, this is a story with a happy ending. Wagner was able to have a surgery to undo the effects of NPH by having a shunt put into his head with a tube to drain the fluid in the brain to the abdomen, it will remain in his brain for the rest of his life. Now, Wagner is back on tour with a band in Denmark. "I am like a new man almost overnight," he said. "For five years, I couldn't even pick up a guitar -- I didn't have the strength or the coordination."

Rock Star's Dementia Cured: Dick Wagner Is Back In The Music Business

Alice Cooper Aerosmith Kiss

Dick Wagner, the rock star’s dementia was a mystery to him, until doctors managed to find a cure for it and get him back in tune with his guitar playing. Dick Wagner is best known as a close cohort of Alice Cooper (he co-wrote most of Cooper’s biggest hits, including ‘Welcome To My Nightmare’) and has also played lead guitar for the likes of Aerosmith and Kiss.

In 2007, however, his career hit the rocks when he suffered a stroke and a heart attack, Yahoo news reveals. “I woke up from a coma after two weeks with a paralyzed left arm,” says Wagner. Although he worked hard at rehabilitation, there was something stopping him making a full recovery. He suffered from a “mental fuzziness” as well as balance issues, which created further problems, when they caused him to fall and injure himself. In 2011, though, he was finally diagnosed with NPH (normal pressure hydrocephalus), a build up of spinal fluid in the brain’s ventricles.

NPH often mimics the symptoms of other illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Doctor’s determined that it wasn’t the stroke that had removed his ability to play guitar, but the NPH. Now, aged 70 and living in Arizona, the effects of NOH have been reversed, with the aid of a spinal tap, to drain fluid from the brain. Doctors placed a ‘shunt’ in his head to redirect the fluid, via a tube, under the skin to his abdominal cavity, removing a small amount of fluid every day for the rest of his life. Finally, Wagner has regained the ability to play guitar and do what he loves the most. “I am like a new man almost overnight,” said the rocker.

Out Now: US Album Releases (Nov 6) Aerosmith, Ne-Yo, Skyfall OST, Third Day

OK, so the majority of the US public have just one race on their minds today and that’s the US Presidential race. But once that’s been decided in a few hours, all thoughts will surely be turning to the all-important albums chart race… surely? Can any of this week’s releases threaten Taylor Swift’s position at the top or will she get a second term at number one?

Aerosmith have returned, after an 11-year hiatus from writing any new material. Time appears to have stood still on Aerosmith-land in those eleven years and Music From Another Dimension is pretty much as you would expect an Aerosmith album to sound. Of course, Steven Tyler’s presence on American Idol has brought the attention of Aerosmith back to a new generation of fans, so much of this material may well even sound fresh to them.

Cat Power has informed her fans, that her European tour will still go ahead, despite the news that she is suffering financial and health difficulties. She told her fans "European Tour Is On. Without Stage Presentation. Hard Money Wasted." It is thought that she is planning a stripped-down version of her show for the tour, which will include her first London show in four years.

Katy Perry has been accused of 'sexualising children' by the indie-dance band Crystal Castles. The band's singer, Alice Glass, told NME magazine "I think a lot of (pop stars) sell sex to children. I think a lot of kids are more sexualised now than they were years ago and I'm not sure it's a coincidence. Like f**king Katy Perry spraying people with her f**king d**k, her f**king c** gun c**ming on f**king children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with 'I wanna see your (pea) cock' on it."

Out Now: UK Album Releases (Nov 5), Robbie Williams, JLS, Aerosmith, Ne-Yo

Calvin Harris will most likely be taking a peek at this week’s UK album’s releases (Monday November 5, 2012) and resigning himself to handing over the albums chart crown to Robbie Williams, come Sunday. In fact, it’s quite appropriate that Robbie has named his album Take The Crown, because that’s exactly what we think he’ll be doing this week.

Take The Crown is Robbie Williams’ ninth solo studio album and if the first single to be lifted from the album is anything to go by, it’s heading straight for the top of the charts. ‘Candy’ went in at number one yesterday, following an appearance from Williams on the UK’s X Factor show the previous weekend. The former Take That singer recently welcomed his first child into the world – what better way to celebrate than with a number one album?

Stars Show Support For Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together Telethon

A Hurricane Sandy: Coming Together Telethon was held last night in the hopes of bringing relief to the millions affected when Hurricane Sandy ripped through the East Coast of America.

NBC aired a commercial-free telethon last night (Nov 2) live from storm-ravaged Staten Island, with Matt Lauer helming the celeb fest that urged viewers across America to pledge what they could and help the millions suffering from the storm.

Christina Aguilera got things started, entering a dark stage and delivering a powerful, stripped down version of ‘Beautiful.’ After the Staten Island native’s performance, a rolling montage of just some of the destruction was played, ending with a still of the once bustling Jersey Shore, after which Jersey native Jon Bon Jovi gave acoustic performances of ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home’ and ‘Living on a Prayer’ with guitarist Bob Bandiera and Lorenza Ponce on the violin.

We Will Not Leave Anyone Behind: Christina Aguilera Supports Victims Of Hurricane Sandy

Christina Aguilera Aerosmith Bon Jovi Billy Joel Bruce Springsteen

Christina Aguilera opened the highly publicised charity telethon, "Hurricane Sandy: Come Together", in aid of the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy. It was a fitting role for the singer and 'The Voice' coach, as she was born and raised on Staten Island, which is one of the areas most affected by the enormous storm.

"I was born in Staten Island" she began, addressing the crowd. "We are here for you. We will do whatever we can to help. We will not leave any one of you behind, because every single one of you matters." She then broke into a heart wrenching rendition of 'Beautiful'. Other acts that followed included Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel and Aerosmith. "Today" hody Matt Lauer said that it was easy to get everyone on board, mostly requiring "one phone call".

CBS news reports some very generous commercial donations already pledged, including $1m from the CBS themselves, $2m from Disney, and a further $1m from News Corp. Celebrities all over the US are tweeting support for the telethon, particularly the Jersey Shore stars who found their own fame in New Jersey. Before taking to the stage, Christina left a tweet, saying "Sending my love and support to everyone on the east coast who's been affected. Thinking of u all. XoXtina"

Aerosmith Turn Up To The Late Show With David Letterman To Talk Past, Present And Future

Steven Tyler Visits Letterman

Steven Tyler turns up for The Late Show

If you believe the rumours, things haven't been going smoothly in the Aerosmith camp of late, with reports suggesting that the admittedly often turbulent rock band might be splitting up. Well, the relaxed demeanour of front man Steven Tyler as he turned up for David Letterman's Late Show suggested that such aspersions may be far fetched. Tyler looked in good spirits has he arrived in flares, a purple shirt and a jacket to speak to the chat show host along with the rest of his band.

Embarrassment On Today As Steven Tyler Drops The F-Bomb

Steven Tyler Aerosmith Al Roker

Steven Tyler might've spent the last couple of years slouched on a chair at the judging table of American Idol, but the Aerosmith front man hasn't lost his rock and roll attitude! If rock and roll means cussing early morning on American television anyway.

Tyler and his band were performing during the show's 8 o'clock hour, a pretty early time to be out of bed for normal people, never mind veteran rock stars, specially not ones planning to drop the F-bomb live on television. The moment came when Al Roker was giving the weather update, at which point Tyler revved up the early morning crowd who'd turned up for their first song by saying "Hey y'all...Thanks for coming out, you crazy f**kers," which could be heard against the backdrop of a weather map.

"What did he just say?" Roker asked. "That's why they haven't done mornings." It wasn't the only gaff that Tyler made either: as the show opened up, he could be seen sing-songing "good morning, America!" in reference to Today's bitter rivals. Oops. An embarrassed Roker claimed "That's why they haven't done morning television! They don't even know what show they're on!" We get the sense that Tyler might've just been being a bit devilish.

Aerosmith And Steven Tyler Shrouded In Rumor-mill Mysteries

Aerosmith Steven Tyler Erin Brady

Steven Tyler and Aerosmith have been rinsed in the rumor-mill recently, as both he and the band are having to dispute rumours and explain some confusing events.

Firstly the band's website was hacked, which left the site showing only a picture of crossed arms. The website eventually reverted to its normal state for a few days, but then again, the picture appeared again, reports Noisecreep, but this time it came with a brief message the resembled the beginning of a letter. It included hints as to whom hacked the site, seemingly a band that are looking for a bit of publicity. Speaking to NoiseCreep Steven Tyler said he had no idea what had happened to the site, and had even considered that it was a stunt done by their own tech team. "I saw the "arms up" picture last week and thought, s***, that looks pretty cool, what are we doing?" he said. "I can't figure it out... But I'll tell ya - they got the balls. I see a stunt like this and think, if this is really a band, then all I want do is hear their music." However, he said "if they suck I'll kick their ass and maybe sue them".

Tyler and his reps were also forced to defend the status of his relationship with his fiancee, model Erin Brady, which was reported to have broken down. As E! reported "Steven has been trying to maintain his lifestyle and to stay clean. The tour is really important to him and the band. So he decided to end it." However, his reps disputed this, and said "Just as any couple goes through trials and tribulations in a relationship, Steven and Erin are asking for their privacy at this time. They are engaged to be married and each committed to their sobriety. Any claim to the contrary is absolutely false." Hopefully all of these rumours will die down in time for their much anticipated new album 'Music From Another Dimension!' which will be released November 6th 2012,

Has Aerosmith's Website Really Been Hacked?

Aerosmith Steven Tyler Joe Perry

A strange one, this. Aerosmith fans were left dumbfounded this week after the band's official website appeared to have been hacked by another group or artist looking for their big break. Visiting www.aerosmith.com returns nothing more than a weird looking image and a lengthy note.

Whoever is behind the (alleged) hack starts off by apologising, "Look. This was not easy for us to do," before explaining, "It was a tough decision to make as a BAND because we know we're causing you some headaches right now, and we love you guys. But what is an unknown band supposed to do today? How is a band supposed to get noticed?" Pretty bizarre huh? Well, whoever the perpetrator is, they certainly have a high opinion of themselves, adding, "We are doing what we can to survive. We don't wanna beg borrow or steal. But it's getting to that point. We're not just some band. We are GOOD. We f***ing rock." The page has all the hallmarks of a hack, though Noisecreep managed to get in touch with Steven Tyler, who seemed a little too relaxed about the whole thing. Hmm. When asked about the hack, the rocker said, "You know what? I've been asking everyone else. I really don't know. At first I thought it was my web guy. I saw the "arms up" picture last week and thought, shit, that looks pretty cool, what are we doing? I like this! And he had no clue. So then I heard from some of the other guys in the band that somebody might have hacked us. It's what happens today, right? Your album gets bootlegged. Your site gets hacked. This is the modern world." Well, yeah, kind of, but shouldn't Tyler be a little more worried considering he's got a new album to promote and probably some tour dates. And wouldn't his "web guy" have been able to take the thing down by now? One line of thought is that the message is way of promoting Joe Perry's son's group TAB the Band, though Tyler addressed that issue, saying, "I say to Joe Perry. Joe, it's a band, it's your kid's band, right?' They are doing this to get attention. He checks it out and says no, it's not them, he's positive. So I'm thinking great, here is some band that read our book and now they are holding us hostage."

Aerosmith's new album Music from Another Dimension! hits on November 6, 2012.

Aerosmith - Music From Another Dimension Album Review

Music From Another Dimension is the fifteenth studio album from these old-hands of the rock scene. It's been 11 years since the band have released a full studio album of new material and frankly, it could quite easily have been entitled Music From Another Decade, for the sake of accuracy. Nothing's really changed in the Aerosmith camp since we last heard a full collection of original material (2001's Just Push It) but then, Aerosmith were never ones for pushing musical boundaries, were they? It's all about pouring yourself into a combination of very small items of denim and leather, draping yourself in scarves and adhering strictly to every rock cliché under the sun.

Aerosmith - Music From Another Dimension Album Review

Aerosmith Music From Another Dimension press shotAnd cliche is the order of the day, here. There's everything that you would expect from an Aerosmith album, and no more. Fist-clenching love ballads, head-banging three-chord blues rock; standard '80s rock affair. There is a terrifying moment, on the album opener 'LUV XXX' which, with vocalist Steven Tyler singing "hello" over and over, sounds almost as though they are about to start aping the grunge sound of Nirvana. Luckily, the moment passes. just. and we are left with the sound of 64 year-old Steven Tyler telling us to "love three times a day / lock yourself away," and yowling something about "sex on a hot tin roof." Not a cliché, per se, but a depressingly, reassuringly Aerosmithian take on the world.

Lyrically, Tyler treads familiar ground. Not just familiar to himself, but familiar to anyone who's ever resorted to listening to drive-time radio shows, as he hurls vignettes like "a red hot lady on a cold summer night," ('Out Go The Lights') from his raggedly vocal cords. And stylistically, there's also a sense of de-ja vu here. Aerosmith released two singles simultaneously from Music From Another Dimension. One of them, 'What Could Have Been Love,' is pure 'I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing' territory. You'd be forgiven for assuming that the band had filmed a stereotypical cinematic accompanying video of a troubled lover getting into his convertible, listening to this song on the car stereo, before driving out to a dusty old dive bar, where tattooed hulks play pool and fight over their love rival. You'd be forgiven for thinking that, because that's exactly what they did. Hell, it's worked for them in the past so why shouldn't it work now? All they're really missing is a young Alicia Silverstone and it could be 1993 again, for all we know.

'What Could Have Been Love' - New Aerosmith Video Unveiled

Aerosmith Steven Tyler Joe Perry

Aerosmith have released the video for their latest single ‘What Could Have Been Love’ and they’re really playing up to the ‘classic rock’ tag, with a video stuffed full of classic rock signifiers. Classic American convertible car? Song being played on radio of aforementioned convertible car? Check! Bit of a bar-room brawl? Check! Prominent bottle of tequila? Check! Beautiful women looking sultry in smoky bar? Check! Beautiful young men selected to act out the love interest, because the band members are now all old enough to collect their pensions and the record label’s still clinging onto the notion that sex sells? Check!

The band will be releasing their 15th studio album, Music From Another Dimension, on November 6, 2012 – it’s their first studio album release in 11 years, though Steven Tyler joked “it’s not that it took 10 years, but that we were busy getting ready.” Joe Perry said “This is the album we wanted to make since the band got back together in 1984… Can’t complain about number one singles or album-driven sold-out world tours, as we blaze the Aerosmith trail with our fans. But this is the record that when the five of us are in a room yelling turn up the volume, that room could be 1325 Commonwealth Avenue (a reference to the apartment that the band used to share together).”

Aerosmith have clearly decided against breaking the mould in the 11 years since they last released any new material and instead have opted for the ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ approach to their new songs. So, if you’re a fan of emotive key changes framed by noodling guitar solos (i.e. if you’re a fan of Aerosmith, generally), you’ll love ‘What Could Have Been Love.’

Girls Aloud and the Sugababes are to record a charity single for Comic Relief.

The girl bands will join up to record the 1980s classic Walk This Way, a smash hit for hip hop group Run-DMC and The Rock band Aerosmith.

Speaking at the launch of the 11th Red Nose Day, band members said they were excited by the prospect of recording the track and making a difference.

In a star-studded affair at the London Eye, Girls Aloud singer Kimberly Walsh said: "It's a fantastic song and hopefully will raise tons of money for people living in really difficult situations here and in Africa."

Meanwhile, the Sugababes' Keisha said she was "really pleased to be working with Girls Aloud" on a song which is an "all-time classic collaboration".

One person missing from the event was Nadine Coyle, who is believed to be with her boyfriend Jesse Metcalf, star of Desperate Housewives, in the US, amid rumours she may move there permanently.
