Rapper Akon Is Expanding His Solar Power Charity Initiative Into Latin America.
The Locked Up star has been working on providing solar power to Africans living in rural areas, through his Akon Lighting Africa company, which he co-founded in 2013. He has also launched a Solar Academy in Mali, where engineers will be taught how to harness the sun's energy.
Akon has now teamed up with government officials in several Latin American countries, including Brazil, in a bid to bring his initiative to the poor communities on the continent.
"Proud to announce that AKON lighting Africa has now expanded," he writes on Instagram.com. "We are now in Latin America creating the new initiative AKON LIGHTING LATIN AMERICA!! Clean energy for all."
