Thanksgiving: The Best Musically Inspired Thank Yous And Songs Of Appreciation We Could Find

Dido Nick Cave Neil Young Alanis Morissette Louis Armstrong David Sylvian Otis Redding Mac DeMarco Ray Davies Vince Guaraldi

Thanksgiving is upon us once more. In fact in many countries, including Canada, The Netherlands and St Lucia it has already been celebrated. The forth Thursday in November though is arguably the biggest, best known Thanksgiving around the world as it's when The United States Of America, and Brazil, recognise the national holiday. Abraham Lincoln set, or proclaimed, the date for all states back in 1863 and ever since then that's when people have taken time out, not only to bless the harvest, but to say thank you. One reluctant out going President Trump pardoned Corn the turkey, although who was the bigger turkey was still up for debate, in the traditional White House ceremony just the other day setting in motion the start of the U.S celebrations. This inspired us here at Contact Music to put together a topical playlist themed around Thanksgiving.

11 Amazing Albums By Female Artists The 90s Brought Us

Liz Phair Alanis Morissette Lauryn Hill Garbage Skunk Anansie The Cranberries TLC Tori Amos PJ Harvey Bjork

The 90s is by far one of our favourite decades for music, not only because of its rich and diverse span of genres, but also because of the incredible female talent that came out of that time. Here are just a few of the greatest women-led albums of this extraordinary era.

1. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes (1992)

This American redhead's debut album was actually a second attempt which she worked on with her then boyfriend Eric Rosse following the break-up of her band Y Kant Tori Read. It became a tour de force, breaking pop conventions with its acoustic piano and Tori's unusual vocal style, and lyrics that range from the funny to the surreal. It's a sublime commentary on female sexuality and it hasn't aged a day.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Everything Else Has Gone Wrong

It's been the longest they've ever gone without releasing an album, but six years after UK number one 'So Long, See You Tomorrow', Bombay Bicycle Club return with 'Everything Else Has Gone Wrong'. They also have a new label, Mmm... Records, and if the title single and lead single 'Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)' are anything to go by, it will be another stellar hit.

Alanis Morissette Joins James Corden To Rework 'Ironic' For The Tinder And Snapchat Generation

Alanis Morissette James Corden

Alanis Morissette’s 1996 hit ‘Ironic’ has taken a lot of flack over the years for some of its less-than-ironic lyrics (is rain on your wedding day really ironic?). But on Monday night’s edition of James Corden's 'Late Late Show', the song was given a modern re-working that we can all get behind.

Alanis MorissetteAlanis Morissette has reworked ‘Ironic’ for the 21st century.

Wearing in a red beanie hat, resembling the one she wore in the song’s video, Morissette sat down for an acoustic rendition of the hit, with a few different lyrics. ’An old friend sending you a Facebook request and only find out they're racist after you accept,' Morissette began, before she was joined by host James Corden dressed in a matching outfit.

Almost 20 Years On, Dave Coulier Is Still Hung Up On Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know "

Alanis Morissette Dave Coulier

Since it came out in 1995, Alanis Morisette’s You Oughtta Know has been repurposed as the anthem of thousands of bad breakups. But to the many Alanis fans, who have burnt pictures of their exes to the tune of Morisette’s hit, Dave Coulier would like you to know: it wasn’t about him. Coulier, whose career piqued in the 90s, is mostly known for two things – playing Joey on Full House and being the inspiration behind Alanis Morisette’s angsty breakup track – sort of like the Taylor Swift/John Mayer relationship of the generation, for anyone born after 1999.

Alanis Morissette
Alanis Morissette might be over it by now, but Coulier sure isn't.

In a recent interview, Coulier confirmed that he and Morissette dated, but there's no way he had anything to do with those now 19-year-old lyrics.

Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' And The Five Best Breakup Albums Of All Time

Coldplay Abba Adele Bon Iver Alanis Morissette Amy Winehouse

Coldplay’s new album Ghost Stories has been released, to quite a mixed bag of reviews. When just three weeks after the album’s track listing had been announced Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow announced their “conscious uncoupling” we all had a pretty good idea what the tone of the album would be like. With tracks like “Another’s Arms,” “Always in my Head” and “Magic,” it became pretty self-explanatory that "Ghost Stories" was going to be a breakup album.

Coldplay Breakup Albums "Ghost Stories" focuses on the marriage breakup between Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

Perhaps he was inspired to call the album “Ghost Stories” as some of these breakup albums have been the some of the most hauntingly heartbreaking albums ever released.

Celebrity Engagements That Didn't Last

Naya Rivera Big Sean Jennifer Lopez Ben Affleck Gwyneth Paltrow Brad Pitt Evan Rachel Wood Marilyn Manson Ryan Reynolds Alanis Morissette

The most shocking break up news of the week goes to Glee star Naya Rivera and now ex-fiancee Big Sean. The pair have called it quits amid rumours of infidelity and Rolex theft. Naya tweeted “@bigsean stealing rolexes from a lady’s house now. Maybe cuz I’m on Glee and making more money or something. #triflin.” Although the tweet was quickly removed, the plot is definitely thickening.

Naya Rivera Big Sean Naya Rivera and Big Sean have called time on their relationship

These others celebs also decided to end their very high profile engagements, although none of them accused each other of stealing expensive watches. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck AKA Bennifer were a bit of an odd couple to even begin with. In 2003 the couple were involved in an extremely high profile relationship, going so far as to co-star in a couple of god awful movies. The engagement was broken off in 2004, allegedly because Ben wasn’t ready to give up single life. Which makes sense because a year later he married Jennifer Garner. Burnnnnn.
