Ribeira was in rehearsal last week when he pulled his back as he was overcompensating for an existing groin injury, as E! reports.

Since the news of Ribeiro's injury came to light, there has been speculation the actor and presenter may have to withdraw from the competition. However, Ribeiro is hoping he will be up to competing in the semi-finals alongside his dancing partner Witney Carson. Prior to his injury, Ribeiro was a favourite to win the competition out of the five pairs competing for the season 19 DWTS Mirror Ball Trophy.

Ribeiro took to Twitter on Saturday (15th November) to thank fans for their support and keep them updating on his progress. Ribeiro wrote: "Hey #TeamWitfonso thanks 4 all the love. I'm working really hard to be able to dance Monday. Keep the prayers coming. Love you all." His partner, Carson, also tweeted and updated fans on Ribeiro's progress explaining how his back is "better" but he is still in "in pain".

43-year-old Ribeiro is best known for his role as Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Since the show finished, more than 18 years ago, Ribeiro has hosted a number of game shows including GSN's Catch 21 and has appeared in and directed such sitcoms as Are We There Yet? Dancing With The Stars is not the only reality show Ribeiro has appeared on in the last few years. In 2013, he appeared on the British series I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!

Get well soon Alfonso!
