Rocker Alice Cooper was the special guest at Los Angeles' Musicians Institute on Saturday (17Mar12) as he picked up an honorary doctorate and delivered an entertaining graduation speech to students.
The veteran star was feted for his contribution to the arts with an honorary degree, the second of his career, and he joked to the audience at the famed music school, "One more of these and I can write prescriptions!"
He also addressed around 600 students to give the Commencement Speech during their graduation ceremony, and he told the audience, "First of all, the fact that I am here as your keynote speaker raises a lot of red flags. It shows an obvious lack of judgment on your part."
But Cooper got serious as he shared some words of wisdom with graduates hoping to make it in the music industry: "Mediocrity is your greatest enemy... If you're going to be in this business, don't be afraid to go out on that limb as far as you can... If you succeed, you become a genius; if you fail, you become an idiot. You can always start again."
The star subsequently posted a picture on his Twitter.com page showing him holding his certificate, adding, "That's Doctor Cooper to you!!"
