Alicia Silverstone (born 4.10.1976)
Alicia Silverstone is an American actress, best known for her lead role in the film Clueless.
Childhood: Alicia Silverstone was born and raised in San Francisco, California. Her parents are Deirdre ('Didi'), a former PanAm flight attendant and Monty, a real-estate investor. Her father is Jewish and her mother converted to Judaism before marrying Monty.
Alicia has two siblings as well as a half-sister and a half-brother, from her father's previous marriage. She failed to complete her high school studies but began modeling at a young age and was cast in a number of commercials, as well as a role in one episode of The Wonder Years.
Rise to Fame & Career Highlights: In the early 1990s, Silverstone became legally emancipated, at the age of 15, to enable her to work the long hours for her lead role in the 1993 film The Crush. She won the Best Breakthrough Performance Award and the Best Villain Award at the 1994 MTV Movie Awards for her performance in the film.
Marty Callner was so impressed with her performance in the film that he cast her in the Aerosmith videos 'Cryin'', 'Amazing' and 'Crazy'. The videos helped to make Silverstone a household name and brought her to Amy Heckerling's attention. Heckerling went on to cast Silverstone in Clueless.
As a result of Clueless' success in the summer of 1995, Alicia signed a deal with Columbia-TriStar, reportedly worth $10 million. The following year, she starred in The Babysitter, Hideaway and New World.
Her next major role was as Batgirl, in Batman & Robin. The film performed badly in the US, though the rest of the world seemed to look more favourably on the release.
Silverstone's final film release of the 1990s was the comic romance Blast From the Past, which starred Sissy Spacek, Brendan Fraser and Christopher Walken.
In 2000, Silverstone was cast alongside Kenneth Branagh in an adaptation of Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost. This was followed up with the films Global Heresy and Scorched.
Alicia Silverstone started 2005 with a spin-off of the BarberShop films, appearing alongside Queen Latifah in Beauty Shop. Later that year, she appeared in the box office success, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, which also starred Freddi Prinze Jr. and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The following year, Silverstone starred in Stormbreaker, which also featured Ewan McGregor and Sophie Okonedo.
Personal Life: Silverstone has been known to date a number of high-profile celebrities, such as Benicio del Toro, Adam Sandler and Leonardo DiCaprio.
In 2005, Alicia Silverstone married Christopher Jarecki (of the band S.T.U.N.), on a beach in Lake Tahoe. They had been dating for eight years prior to the marriage.
In 1998, Alicia became a vegan and is a regular supporter of animal rights and environmental causes.
Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos reteams with his The Lobster star Colin Farrell for another offbeat thriller with surreal twists. While this film has a bit less of the supernatural weirdness, it's a far darker story, verging on horror as it pushes its characters into a seriously messy exploration of the morality of revenge. In the end, the message might be a little unclear, but it's a rare film that has the power to leave our heads spinning.
It's set in Cincinnati, in middle America, where cardiologist Steven (Farrell) has finally conquered the alcoholism that threatened his career. His loyal wife Anna (Nicole Kidman) helped him through this, along with their teen daughter Kim (Raffey Cassidy) and younger son Bob (Sunny Siljic). Now Steven is secretly meeting up with the 16-year-old Martin (Barry Keoghan), son of a patient Steven lost on the operating table. As they become friends, he introduces Martin to his family, and things take a strange turn as Martin's plan for vengeance begins to target Kim and Bob. And Steven and Anna are terrified when they think about what has to happen for Martin to feel like they're even.
With big moral questions that continually touch a nerve, the film sometimes feels like a particularly deranged Twilight Zone episode. And it also has a powerful emotional resonance, because the characters are so easy to identify with, including Martin. And since the actors underplay their roles, we can't help but put ourselves in their shoes. Farrell and Kidman find a terrific blend of vulnerability and tenacity in their roles, bringing these frightened parents to vivid life. Cassidy and Suljic are also excellent as intelligent children caught up in what to them is an inexplicable nightmare, while Keoghan steals the film with a casual intensity that becomes increasingly freaky without ever tipping over the top.

Greg Heffley is a bright young boy who is desperately tired of not having control of his own life. He is not looking forward to being forced to spend four days in a car on a road trip with his family to visit his grandmother on her 90th birthday; instead, he wants to go to a top video game expo in Indianapolis. He and his older brother Rodrick hatch a plan to borrow the car for a day to attend the event, however they can't evade their parents forever and mom and dad are understandably furious when they find out what their sons have been up to. Nothing goes smoothly when its a Wimpy Kid adventure - but this time Greg has to have courage if he's going to get through it.
She'd rather go naked than wear wool.
Alicia Silverstone has joined PETA's latest nude campaign, 'I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Wool', for a risque photoshoot outlining the cruelty behind the treatment of our ovine friends when they have been raised for shearing. It follows a similar thread to the famous 'I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur' movement.
Alicia Silverstone campaigns against wool for PETA
The 40-year-old vegan activist has done a lot of work for the non-profit organisation People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and her latest is to urge people to pledge against buying wool and end the cycle of cruelty that thousands of sheep suffer each year.

Just like Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX, we all still want to be in Clueless.
Rapper Iggy Azalea has done a pretty amazing job at recreating the movie ‘Clueless’ for her new video ‘Fancy’ featuring Charli XCX. Iggy has pretty much included all the film's most important scenes in her homage and its sent us straight back to the nineties, wanting to be Alicia Silverstone all over again. So what is it about a film that's nearly twenty years old which keeps us coming back?

If you're of the organic/vegan/clean eating tribe, that is
Like many of her fellow Hollywood dwellers, Alicia Silverstone is an advocate for the clean, organic, vegan lifestyle, however her latest endeavor might be taking it a bit too far. The Miss Match actress has founded a breast milk share program, the New York Daily News reports. How this works is, if a mom should find herself in need of breast milk and not wanting to use the services of a breast milk bank – yes, those do exist – she can just reach out to the program and someone, more fortunate in the lactation department, can help out. “If you have milk to share — post it! If you are in need of milk — post it!” Silverstone wrote. “Think of all the babies we can help raise together!”
The health-conscious mom is reaching out.
The “Clueless” star, a longtime vegan, explained she was inspired by a friend who couldn’t produce enough milk because of a prior breast reduction surgery. It sounds like a well-meaning plan, however there are a number of drawbacks to it. Most notably, breast milk is the easiest way to transfer a disease from mother to baby. While breast milk banks test their samples for a number of viruses, including HIV, an unofficial program like this doesn’t have the safety checks in place, so women turning to in for help should be prepared to run some checks themselves. Regardless of the risks, however, Silverstone’s program already has several eager patrons.

All eyes are on Flight and Wreck It Ralph this weekend as the main contenders for box office glory. Denzel Washington’s performance in Flight has already sparked whispers of an Oscar nomination from insiders, something that’s always guaranteed to get people fleeing to the movie theaters. However, with much of the East coast of the USA blighted by Hurricane Sandy earlier in the week, the attentions of much of the US public will be elsewhere as people try to recover from the devastation caused there.
Denzel Washington last won an Oscar in 2002, for the crime thriller Training Day. Flight is Washington’s latest stab at the prize. Described on Rotten Tomatoes as an “action packed mystery thriller,” Denzel plays the lead role of the pilot Whip Whitaker, who manages to land a passenger plane after a mid-air catastrophe and saves everyone on board. After being hailed as a hero, it soon becomes clear that something may be amiss with Whitaker and all is not as it seems.
The critical response to Flight has been largely positive, with Roger Ebert hinting at the power of Denzel’s performance by saying “Not often does a movie character make such a harrowing personal journey that keeps us in deep sympathy all of the way.” High praise indeed from Ebert. In fact, the bulk of the praise for Flight is centered on Washington; Rolling Stone’s Peter Travers surmises “Flight reminds us of what Washington can do when a role hits him with a challenge that would floor a lesser actor. He's a ball of fire, and his detailed, depth-charged, bruisingly true performance will be talked about for years.” Sounds like one not to be missed! Wreck It Ralph might not have ‘Oscar Winner’ stamped all over it but it’s still shaping up to be a strong contender in the popularity stakes this weekend, with only one dissenter failing to give it the thumbs up on Rotten Tomatoes’ round-up of the top critics’ remarks.
Stacey and Goody are two vampires cursed to remain young and beautiful forever after being bitten and changed in the 19th Century. Whilst they have dated numerous men in the past, they still prove to be putty in the hands of love when Stacey falls for the son of the notorious vampire hunter Dr Van Helsing. Joey Van Helsing is equally as taken with her as she is with him, however his father immediately knows Stacey's secret and tries to warn Joey but to no avail. He gets together an angry mob of hunters who threaten to expose the coffin-lounging lady vamps to the sunlight they hate so much - always being slaves to the night when they spend their time partying. When Goody meets her dream man from years ago, both girls are faced with a choice: eternal immortality or love.
This side-splitting Rom Com is a brilliantly light-hearted take on the classic vampire; the perfect comic relief after the serious subject matter of modern vamp stories 'Twilight', 'True Blood' and 'Vampire Diaries'. It has been directed and written by Amy Heckerling; the writer of high-school parody series 'Clueless' and movies 'Loser' and 'Look Who's Talking' and has the same hilarious style of humour that has captured audiences since the '90s. 'Vamps' is set for release on November 2nd 2012 in the USA.
Starring: Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter, Richard Lewis, Sigourney Weaver, Wallace Shawn, Justin Kirk, Malcolm McDowell, Zak Orth, Marilu Henner, Scott Thomson, Todd Barry, Kristen Johnston, Natalie Gal, Meredith Scott Lynn, Joel Michaely and Dan Stevens.
