Alt-J's set at a music event in India was cancelled after heavy rain threatened to flood the festival site.

The British rockers had been due to perform at the Emerge Music and Art Festival in Delhi on Sunday (01Mar15) alongside artists including Rudimental, but the gig was called off due to safety fears.

A statement from the band reads, "The weather has made it too dangerous, for fans, crew and band. Hope we can come back soon."

Alt-J keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton adds in posts on Twitter.com, "The stage was covered in water. All the lights and equipment.. would have been ruined and could have posed a risk of electrocution too... We are really sorry we had to cancel but would only ever do that if absolutely necessary... We didn't come all this way to wantonly cancel a gig."
