The former American Idol finalist signed on to lead the cast of Breaking Through at the Pasadena Playhouse, starting on 27 October (15), but on Monday (19Oct15), it was announced he had decided to leave the production for unspecified reasons.

The news comes after he was arrested in August (15), following allegations he kicked girlfriend Angelina Reed during an argument. After posting bail, he denied the claims, insisting he was acting in self-defence, and subsequently won an order of protection against his now-ex partner, who was told to stay away from the house they once shared with their four-year-old daughter, Malena.

Maroulis, who was also slapped with a restraining order by Reed, was busted days later for allegedly ignoring the no-contact ruling and copying Reed on an email intended for his lawyers.

Last month (Sep15), assault charges against the singer were dismissed, on condition Maroulis and Reed separate and no other complaints are filed for six months.

Maroulis has seen been replaced in Breaking Through by actor Matt Magnusson, and theatre bosses are still moving forward with the show's official opening night on 1 November (15).
