Disney are planning an 'Enchanted' sequel.

According to Deadline, the company have called in 'Shrek 2' screenwriters J. David Stern and David N. Weiss to pen the script for the follow-up to the 2007 live-action fairytale.

The pair - who also wrote the 2011 animated comedy 'The Smurfs' are set to work from a script previously drafted by 'I Am Sam' writer Jessie Nelson.

Anne Fletcher will replace Kevin Lima as director of the new picture and is hoping to follow in the footsteps of the original's astounding box office success which grossed $340 million worldwide.

The original movie follows a young princess - played by Amy Adams - as she makes her way around present day New York City, although plot details for the latest flick are yet to be released.

Adams hasn't confirmed whether she will reprise her role although she has previously said she is open to a follow-up.

The movies' other leads - James Marsden, Patrick Dempsey, Idina Menzel and Susan Sarandon - are also yet to confirm their return.

Meanwhile, Golden Globe-winner Adams is set to release her latest film 'Big Eyes' in December this year.

The 39-year-old actress plays Margaret Keane, an artist who rose to fame in the 1950s and faced a legal battle with her husband who tried to claim credit for her work.
