Congratulations to Robach for the (mostly) good news.

According to the LA Times, Robach sent an email to her ABC colleagues on Friday thanking them for the support and announcing that she is already on the mend. The account of her treatment included an unpleasant, but necessary procedure, as Robach announced that she had undergone a bilateral mastectomy. She wrote, "While in surgery last week my surgeon found a second, undetected malignant tumor. No MRI, no mammogram, no sonogram had found it. ... It was only through the mastectomy that she discovered it."

Amy Robach Reveals She Has Breast Cancer On Air, Following Live Mammogram On 'GMA'

Amy Robach

Amy Robach received a routine mammogram live on Good Morning America last month as part of a segment aimed at promoting women's health and encouraging regular health checks. Meant to help women across America, Robach may have inadvertently saved her own life, as the results from mammogram she received on air have revealed that the presenter is suffering from breast cancer.

On Monday's (11 Nov.) edition of GMA, the presenter revealed the shocking news delivered in her test results and has said that she now plans to have a double mastectomy, with the hopes that it will rid her of the disease. She went on to reveal (according to TV Guide) that she was initially reluctant to have the on-air mammogram when producers first pitched her the idea, but they eventually managed to talk her into it, and the procedure was undertaken on 1 October.

"That day, when I was asked to do something I really didn't want to do, something I had put off for more than a year, I had no way of knowing that I was in a life-or-death situation," a post from her personal blog reads. "Sitting in that kitchen with Marie Monville, I had cancer and didn't know it. In fact, I would have considered it virtually impossible that I would have cancer. I work out, I eat right, I take care of myself and I have very little family history; in fact, all of my grandparents are still alive."
