Amy Winehouse has become the latest high profile musician to join the infamous 27club. Winehouse was reportedly found dead at a flat in Camden (London) by police after a call was made to emergency services earlier today (23Jul11).
The 27 club is the name given to a group of influential music artists who have all died at the tender age of 27. The club initially started after Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, the pioneering JIMI HENDRICKS and singer songwriter Janis Joplin all died at the age of 27 during 1969 and 1970. The Doors singer Jim Morrison joined the club a year later after suffering from heart failure whilst living in Paris.
Other members of the club include Echo And The Bunnymen drummer PETE DE FREITAS, Manic Street Preachers guitarist RICHEY JAMES EDWARDS and most notably the Nirvana frontman KURT COBAIN who shot himself in April 1994.
Amy Winehouse had recently announced she was taking a break from performing to 'get help', this came shortly after being booed off stage during a European comeback tour in June 2011.
