Sam Smith is just one of those singers that never manages to leave a dry eye in the house. Now, he's taken things a step further by performing a sensational cover of the late Amy Winehouse's ballad 'Love Is A Losing Game' on BBC Radio 1 after seeing the biopic.

The 'Amy' documentary was probably one of the most touching films of the year, receiving widespread critical acclaim for its candid portrayal of Amy Winehouse's rise to stardom and her tragic fall from grace. As fans will know, the talented singer's short life was tainted by relationship woes and self-esteem issues in addition to the substance addiction she fell victim to - which makes her hits all the more moving when you hear them.

'Stay With Me' singer Smith was but one of the many who were touched by the film, and expressed his admiration for the late star with a gorgeous cover of her 2007 single 'Love Is A Losing Game', which featured on her number one second album 'Back To Black'.

Appearing on Annie Mac's BBC Radio One show, Smith confessed: 'Seeing that film brought me back to that moment of being 11 years old - her rawness on such beautiful chords, on such expensive chords.' Mac named the cover as her Hottest Record In The World, and the track is set to appear on the Drowning Shadows Edition of his number one debut album 'In The Lonely Hour'.

Earlier this year, Smith performed at Lollapalooza Festival, demonstrating his love of Winehouse with another cover; 'Tears Dry On Their Own'. It's got us wondering whether or not we can expect him to do a Ryan Adams and totally re-do the 'Back To Black' album like Adams did with Taylor Swift's 'Red'. Though it's hard to imagine what Smith would do with 'Rehab'.
