Andie MacDowell avoids giving her daughter acting advice.

The 55-year-old actress - who famously starred in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' alongside Hugh Grant - recently filmed a movie with her aspiring actress offspring, Rainey Qualley, and while she is an incredibly supportive parent, she thinks it's important for the 23-year-old beauty to find her own feet in Hollywood.

Ex-model Andie - who also mentored her daughter Margaret in pursuing a modelling career - explained: ''I'm learning to step back. I think I was truly annoying about helping them in the beginning because I would tell them, 'There are a lot of times I'm trying to help you and you don't even know I'm 100 per cent right. You really have to trust your gods and find your own way.'

''But if we keep it playful rather than judgemental, I think it will work really well. Now I say, 'I will run lines with you but I'm not giving my opinion to you at all', which I think is maybe best.''

Andie and Rainey - whose father is John Qualley, Andie's first husband - starred alongside each other in 2012 movie 'Mighty Fine' and the veteran star hopes to work with her daughter again when she's more experienced.

She added to HELLO! magazine: ''A great dream would be to work together five to 10 years from now, when she has really done the craft long enough to feel extremely secure and well educated and that she knows everything. I would love to be able to do a job with her when I'm asking her for advice. I think that would be a marvellous experience.''
