The highly-rated comedian and star of 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' will be the host of the 67th Primetime Emmys in September.
The next Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Andy Samberg, the current star of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ and former ‘Saturday Night Live’ regular.
The 67th annual edition of the awards ceremony will be broadcast on Fox on Sunday 20th September, live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.
Bruce Rosenblum, chairman and CEO of the Television Academy, reacted to the news by saying “It’s wonderfully fitting that we have Andy Samberg, an Emmy Award winner himself, as our host for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards… …his humor, insights and charisma will be an exciting addition to our annual celebration of television’s best and brightest.”

Samberg was recently a part of the Oscars performance of ‘The Lego Movie’’s theme song ‘Everything Is Awesome’. It was widely acknowledged as one of the few highlights of a mostly dull Oscars night, so perhaps it was this that clinched the decision for the Emmys to appoint Samberg.

Spokesmen for Fox also added that Samberg “is fearless, hilarious, an award-winning comedian, singer, writer and actor with incredible live TV experience. We know he’ll deliver the laughs and give viewers an incredible night they will enjoy.”
36 year old Samberg has won plenty of accolades for his role on Fox’s ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, in which he plays smart-alecky, irreverent but hard-working cop Jake Peralta, who works under the stewardship of a stern but trusting captain played by Andre Braugher. He won a Golden Globe for the role in 2014.
Reacting to his appointment as the host, Samberg said: “Buckle your seat belts, Emmy viewers! Like, in general, you should buckle your seat belts in your car. In fact, even if you’re not an Emmy viewer, you should buckle your seat belt. It can be dangerous on the road.”
The nominations for the awards are due to be unveiled on July 16th.
