Andy Warhol's Grave The Focus Of His 85th Birthday Webcam Event

Andy Warhol, the leader of the Pop Art movement, may have died in 1987, but that hasn't stopped him from making headlines today with the as his grave features in an internet event to celebrate his 85th birthday.

The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh in collaboration with Earthcam and St. John Chrysostom Byzantine Catholic Church will feature a 24 hour event in honour of the late artist. 

Webcams have been set up today (Tuesday 6th August) to mark the artist's birthday, they focus on two sites related to Warhol in Pennsylvania. These sites are the church where Warhol was baptized in 1928 at St. John Chrysostom church and his grave which is situated at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Cemetery. 

A number of events have been scheduled including a service at St. John Chrysostom church which can be viewed on the webcam at 3pm Pacific Time. Warhol's nephew and the Andy Warhol Museum director Eric Shiner will also be visiting the artist's grave at noon. 

Warhol is best known for his Pop Art works including his most famous pieces of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell's Tomato Soup. The Earthcam website is, bizarrely, offering viewers the opportunity to pay tribute (at the price of $10) to Warhol by having cans of Campbell's soup delivered to the grave.

Warhol's life has been dramatized on numerous occasions, most recently in the 2007 drama Factory Girl. The film was an adaptation of the relationship between Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol, respectively played by Sienna Miller and Guy Pearce.
