Actress Angela Bassett is set to play civil rights leader Martin Luther King, JR.'s wife in an upcoming film.
The Green Lantern star will portray Coretta Scott King in Lifetime TV movie Betty and Coretta, which follows the tragic activist's widow and her pal Dr. Betty Shabazz, the wife of Malcolm X, as they try to pick up the pieces following the assassinations of their husbands.
R&B singer Mary J. Blige is attached to take on the role of American educator Shabazz, who was ironically played by Bassett in Spike Lee's 1992 hit Malcolm X.
The African-American minister was killed in New York City in 1965, while Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot dead in Memphis, Tennessee three years later (68).
