A report which emerged online suggested actors working on the set of the show were asked to sign documents instructing them to appear fully nude and simulate the performance of graphic sex acts.

However, bosses behind the series have now spoken out to declare that all the extras working on show will be properly looked after.

A statement from HBO, the network behind the series, reads, "The document that the background actors were given was created by an outside extras casting vendor... We are rectifying immediately the discrepancies in this vendor's document with our actual on-set practices, which provide a professional and comfortable working environment for all performers...

"It was not requested, written or approved by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, or the producers, and contains situations that we do not require of any actor. We are rectifying immediately the discrepancies in this vendor's document with our actual on-set practices, which provide a professional and comfortable working environment for all performers."

Westworld is a remake of the 1973 film of the same name, based on Michael Crighton's 1973 book about a malfunctioning amusement park.

The new show boasts a star-studded cast, including Hopkins alongside Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Ben Barnes and Thandie Newton.

It is slated to debut next year (16).
