The rapper known as A$AP Rocky has been charged with misdemeanour assault after slapping a female fan, according to TMZ

The female who attended the Made In America Music festival claims to have been slapped by the 24 year old as he was walking through a crowd of fans and that she is suffered whiplash from the unprovoked attack. The rapper is said to have become agitated by several fans trying to rip his t-shirt off. 

The alleged victim, made a formal criminal complaint with the District Attorney's Office on Wednesday. A spokeswomen for the Attorney's office confirmed that yesterday the charges in the complaint were approved, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

A$AP Rocky's UK tour dates have been announced which will see him perform four dates across England and Scotland.

Way back in 2011, A$AP Rocky was largely unknown, but with the BBC nominating him for "The Sound of 2012", he has since truly lived up to that moniker. Touring with Drake and Kendrick Lamar saw him rub shoulders with some of the other fastest growing names in his business and now he's bagged his very own tour. This follows the success of his first studio album Live.Long.A$AP which was released on January 15th. 

Fans have been looking forward to the release of the dates for a long time. With four dates in the UK during May, most enthusiasts will be able to catch him somewhere. "For the past year I would give them dates to get them waiting," Rocky told Radio1's Newsbeat. "I couldn't imagine coming into the game telling people they're going to wait another year for a project."

Not even being leaked a month early could halt A$AP Rocky’s album Long.Live A$AP going straight in at the top of the US Billboard charts, and the rapper was understandably thrilled about it.

In what is a major label debut for the hip-hop artist, Long.Live A$AP went in at number one with sales of 139,000 copies – this in spite of the record being available on the internet up to a month before its official release. It was something Rocky was keen to point out as he spoke to MTV, commenting “Let's really think back on this, my joint leaked a month early. Like this is a crazy, this is a blessing, yo. The fact that we're sitting here talking about ... having a #1 album is just crazy alone because we leaked a month early ... a whole month."

The Pitch Perfect soundtrack and long-time loiterers Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars made up the rest of the top five, and Rocky enthused "They didn't have to go buy it because everybody listened to it for free. That means that people just really wanted to support. It must mean that the proof is in the pudding and people appreciate art again. I'm just thankful man." It’s the artist’s third LP and comfortably his most commercially successful yet, suggesting big things lie in wait.

Videos of the Week... Flanked with a letter to the fans, Justin Timberlake’s new song, ‘Suit & Tie’ featuring Jay-Z has the former ‘N Sync star bring sexy back once more. The “open letter to the fans” read: “…Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now my next journey with that thing I love called music… I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”

‘Suit & Tie’ is a slick R&B number, timeless in the sense that it doesn’t feel like much time has passed since Timberlake last released any music (his last album came out in 2006). As a precursor to his expected album later this year, this is a pretty neat little taster of what to expect from Timberlake.

A step up to major label for A$AP Rocky for new album LongLiveA$AP doesn’t look to have halted his direction among the sometimes sniffy music critics at all.

Indeed, with his second full-length out this week, it looks like the pundits are willing him to ride gloriously into the charts this coming weekend. “His major-label debut proves he's more than a magnetic hedonist” wrote Entertainment Weekly in their superlative review whilst, in the UK, The Guardian wrote “Long Live A$AP's is frequently thrilling, a dense splurge of woozy electronics and samples, packed with lovely production touches.” Even the occasionally difficult Pitchfork were suitably impressed enough to give it an 8.5 out of 10 and a much-coveted ‘Best New Music’ tag. “LongLiveA$AP delivers on and even exceeds the promise of LiveLoveA$AP” they commented, adding “Like that mixtape, the album is a triumph of craft and curation, preserving Rocky's immaculate taste while smartly upgrading his sound.”

With Kendrick Lamar stepping up into the big leagues last year with his album good kid, m.A.A.d city, Rocky’ll be hoping to join his one-time touring partner in changing the face of rap in 2013. Alongside these two, the likes of Azealia Banks and Angel Haze have also been touted for big things, the US rap scene finally coming out of the doldrums after years of stagnation.

A terrifying prospect for most adult music fans this week, as the 23rd (yes, twenty third) instalment in the Kidz Bop series is released today. Parents beware, your favourite pop songs are up for the Kidz Bop treatment once more. Featuring child session singers, the Kidz Bop series records ‘child friendly’ versions of popular songs and this time around, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars get their songs all re-done with some pre-pubescent warbling over the top. All your favourite songs, then, as you never wanted to hear them. Unless you’re like, eight years old… and maybe not even then. Still, clearly someone’s listening. And buying. Otherwise they wouldn’t keep making them. And they wouldn’t have so many Gold certificates under their belts.
