Chelsea footballer Ashley Cole has hired an ex-Sas bodyguard to help protect him from girls who attempt to approach him everywhere he goes, according to the Daily Star. Cole is reportedly trying to win back his estranged wife Cheryl Cole, who he split from in 2010 following a cheating scandal.
The newspaper reports Cole is paying a minder $2,000 a day to keep him protected from girls. The footballer fears attention from women will scupper his chances of reigniting his relationship with Cheryl. A friend of the Chelsea star told the tabloid, "Ashley does have problems getting mobbed by autograph hunters and Cheryl fans furious at the way he treated her. But one of the main reasons he has a new minder is because he knows he needs protection from predatory girls - and to be saved from himself". The insider added, "He knows that if he's let loose on fans on his own he might repeat his same old mistakes. He thinks it's a good investment if it keeps him on the straight and narrow". Ashley was rumoured to be reuniting with his former manager Jose Mourinho in Madrid, although it now looks likely he will remain in London for the new season.
Meanwhile, Cheryl has been spending more time in Los Angeles despite her acrimonious exit from Simon Cowell's 'The X Factor USA'.
