Ultra Music Festival turned out to be a bit of a rollercoaster of a weekend for everyone this year but, as usual, it's been three days of some of the most explosive electronic acts of our generation.

Ultra Music Festival 2014 logo

It was a terribly disappointing moment for festival goers (and, indeed, viewers; those who were viewing it live online) when it was announced that Saturday's main stage headliner Avicii would not make it to Miami for his set after being hospitalised earlier in the week for an emergency operation. However, that initial fan frustration was greatly eased by the arrival of Deadmau5, who took the Swedish DJ's place to much delightful surprise. Further entertainment came with some eagerly anticipated headline sets from Tiesto and Hardwell on the Friday and Sunday respectively.

Avicci – real name Tim Bergling – has emerged as a burgeoning force for dance music, and his withdrawal wasn't only a disappointment for excited fans, but also the people behind Ultra Music Festical, who were presumably deeply fustraed at losing their marquee star so close to his cancelled headline spot.

Two Hospital Cases Linked To Ultra Festival - Security Guard & Avicii

Ultra, the Miami music festival, has been the focus of reports following one performer's admittance into hospital. Unfortunately Avicii, the Swedish DJ in question, is not the only person associated with the festival to have been hospitalised.

Avicii was hospitalised in Miami on Friday (28th March) after experiencing stomach pain.

Sadly a private security guard is in a "critical condition" following an incident at one of the gates in which members of the public without a ticket attempted to gain access to the festival arena. 28-year-old Erika Mack was admitted to hospital with severe brain haemorrhaging after being trampled by a crowd clamouring for admittance to the event on Friday (28th March). Reports in the Miami Herald suggest Mack was last seen with, what appeared to be a broken leg, and blood coming out of her ears. Following the incident, which occurred at approximately 8pm yesterday evening, Mack was rushed to Jackson Memorial hospital.

The YouTube Music Awards will celebrate the achievements made online by both well-known and some more obscure (outside the world of viral videos) musicians for the first time this Sunday (3 Oct.) and the organisers have pulled out all the stops to make sure that the awards show starts with a bang. In fact, the awards show will be so extravagant that the man in charge of bringing it to life - Spike Jonze - doesn't even know what to expect.

Jonze, the director of countless award-winning music videos such as Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' and 'Sabotage' by The Beastie Boys, has been brought in as creative director of the event, tasked with making the awards show one to remember and one to challenge the established musical showcases, such as the MTV VMAs. Alongside fellow music video veteran Chris Milk and executive producers Vice Media and Sunset Lane Entertainment, Jonze isn't planning on making a showcase that can be easily compared to the VMAs or the Billboard Awards, for example, as they are going for a completely unique take on the tried and tested music awards ceremony.

Tomorrowland 2013 has re-lived its most memorable moments with a brand new 30 minute official after movie featuring clips of the best shows, sights and most ecstatic event-goers.

It really was a weekend to remember for this Belgian dance festival with some fantastic DJ sets being merely a bonus to an already incredible spectacle. Not only does it take place amidst an idyllic landscape in the town of Boom, but the sheer artistry and determination that went into building the terrific floating stages and flower decked arena was a vision to behold. The main stage in particular was a massive structure with several jaw-dropping features including amazing pyrotechnics, an erupting volcano and waterfalls which almost drew eyes away from the main acts; among which were Dutch DJ Tiesto, Swedish house producer Sebastian Ingrosso, the Grammy nominated Avicii and Sunday's main attraction David Guetta.

Tragic Deaths And Alleged Sexual Assault See Electric Zoo Shut Down

Partygoers were sent home a day early as Sunday’s finale of the Electric Zoo music festival - held on Randalls Island – was cancelled. Jeffrey Russ, 23 - a graduate of Syracuse University, and Olivia Rotondo, a 20, - a student at the University of New Hampshire – both died of fatal drug overdoses.

“The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with city officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event,” the NYPD and Bloomberg said in a joint statement.

“Now there will be no grandchildren, no nieces, no nephews, no wedding,” Russ’ father, John Russ, told the Daily News. “Everything you look forward to in life is gone because of one pill.”
