The YouTube Music Awards will celebrate the achievements made online by both well-known and some more obscure (outside the world of viral videos) musicians for the first time this Sunday (3 Oct.) and the organisers have pulled out all the stops to make sure that the awards show starts with a bang. In fact, the awards show will be so extravagant that the man in charge of bringing it to life - Spike Jonze - doesn't even know what to expect.

Spike JonzeJason Schwartzman
Spike Jonze (L) and Jason Schwartzman (R) are in control of the night in their respective roles

Jonze, the director of countless award-winning music videos such as Weezer's 'Buddy Holly' and 'Sabotage' by The Beastie Boys, has been brought in as creative director of the event, tasked with making the awards show one to remember and one to challenge the established musical showcases, such as the MTV VMAs. Alongside fellow music video veteran Chris Milk and executive producers Vice Media and Sunset Lane Entertainment, Jonze isn't planning on making a showcase that can be easily compared to the VMAs or the Billboard Awards, for example, as they are going for a completely unique take on the tried and tested music awards ceremony.

Tomorrowland 2013 has re-lived its most memorable moments with a brand new 30 minute official after movie featuring clips of the best shows, sights and most ecstatic event-goers.

It really was a weekend to remember for this Belgian dance festival with some fantastic DJ sets being merely a bonus to an already incredible spectacle. Not only does it take place amidst an idyllic landscape in the town of Boom, but the sheer artistry and determination that went into building the terrific floating stages and flower decked arena was a vision to behold. The main stage in particular was a massive structure with several jaw-dropping features including amazing pyrotechnics, an erupting volcano and waterfalls which almost drew eyes away from the main acts; among which were Dutch DJ Tiesto, Swedish house producer Sebastian Ingrosso, the Grammy nominated Avicii and Sunday's main attraction David Guetta.

Tragic Deaths And Alleged Sexual Assault See Electric Zoo Shut Down

Partygoers were sent home a day early as Sunday’s finale of the Electric Zoo music festival - held on Randalls Island – was cancelled. Jeffrey Russ, 23 - a graduate of Syracuse University, and Olivia Rotondo, a 20, - a student at the University of New Hampshire – both died of fatal drug overdoses.

“The Electric Zoo organizers have worked with city officials to reduce health risks at this event, but in view of these occurrences, the safest course is to cancel the remaining day of the event,” the NYPD and Bloomberg said in a joint statement.

“Now there will be no grandchildren, no nieces, no nephews, no wedding,” Russ’ father, John Russ, told the Daily News. “Everything you look forward to in life is gone because of one pill.”

Creamfields 2013 - Preview

It's only April but Contactmusic already have one eye on the summer. specifically towards Creamfields 2013 which will be taking place at its usual venue near Daresbury in Cheshire over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th August). And while much of the UK's music press will be off to Leeds and Reading, we're looking forward to something that bit more adrenaline-fuelled, weird and wonderful over at Creamfields.

Creamfields 2013 - Preview

Long since established as the UK's premier dance and electronic festival, Creamfields will be in full party spirit this year to celebrate its 15th Birthday, and the initial line-up is befitting such a milestone. Leading the charge for 2013's event are iconic dance pioneers The Prodigy headlining the Saturday night (24th August) with their only UK festival appearance of 2013. Still going strong and approaching their 25th anniversary, the band are still legendary for their incendiary festival appearances and we're expecting nothing less from their Creamfields headliner - true trailblazers! Supporting them on the North Stage that night will be French Wunderkind Madeon and Zane Lowe with DJ sets, while the South stage takes a distinctly more cutting-edge tack with Avicii, Knife Party and Nicky Romero. Steve Angelo and Benny Benassi head up the Size Matters tent, while Eric Prydz invites Marco Carola, Adam Beyer and special guest Maya Jane Coles to his Prydz Friends tent. Also heading up their own tents are Pete Tong and Annie Mac with impressive supporting casts, though personally, we're most excited about Above & Beyond's Anjunabeats stage: with Paul Oakenfold, Gareth Wyn and Gareth Emery giving us a night of exceptional Trance before Above & Beyond themselves come along to finish the whole thing off in glorious style.

Onto the Sunday (25th August) and the big name is undoubtedly David Guetta - arguably the biggest name in the world of electronic music right now - heading up the North Stage with a selection of tunes that have pretty much been resident on radios across the globe over the past few years. Though, he does face a little competition from Tiësto on the South Stage, as well as Groove Armada giving one of their ever-excellent and eclectic DJ sets in the Nation tent, and Sebastian Ingrosso proving that there is life after Swedish House Mafia as he fronts the All Mixed Up stage. Frankly, Sunday is full of mouth-watering clashes, with Richie Hawtin's intelligent Techno jacking the Enter stage around, Laidback Luke and Eddie Halliwell getting hands up in the air at the Super You&Me stage, Kutski, Andy Whitby and Alex Kidd pushing it hard and fast at the Goodgreef X-Tra Hard stage and Subfocus and Modestep bringing the bass tremors in the Speakerbox tent. And frankly, if you've got any energy left after that little lot, you're a stronger man than I am! An impressive line-up all round.

Avicii Cuts Down Drinking After "Searing" Abdominal Pain And Hospitalisation

Avicii

After being diagnosed with acute pancreatitis in 2012, Swedish electronic dance music DJ Avicii has decided to cut down on the amount he drinks. Tim Bergling, better known as Avicci, was apparently facing a lot of nerves over his gigs, and drank heavily to cope with it. Very soon, his daily intake included cocktails throughout the morning, wine all afternoon, and Champaign in the evening before gigs and bed.

The superstar behind 2011's 'Levels' spoke to 'GG' magazine, saying that: "You are travelling around, you live in a suitcase, you get to this [venue], there's free alcohol everywhere - it's sort of weird if you don't drink... I didn't expect it to last... I just got into a habit, because you rely on that encouragement and self-confidence you get from alcohol, and then you get dependent on it."
