Barbara Windsor is a legend of British TV, and while the character she is best known for - feisty landlady Peggy Mitchell in 'EastEnders' - has passed, she still deserves to be honoured in the best way possible. Hence, the BBC is turning her life story into a TV movie entitled 'Babs'.

Barbara WindsorBarbara Windsor gets a TV movie of her own called 'Babs'

The only thing we're questioning about this new venture is who could possibly portray Dame Barbara Windsor in a movie about her life. She is very much a unique woman, who will be greatly missed from 'EastEnders', and is inimitable in so many ways. The new film will be released on BBC One as a 90 minute special in 2017 and will coincide with her 80th birthday celebration. It will be written by Tony Jordan, who served as the lead writer on 'EastEnders' for four years between 2003 and 3007.

Windsor has expressed how 'honoured and excited' she is about the release of 'Babs' and admitted that Jordan is 'undoubtedly the only person I felt knew me well enough to tell my story'. The movie will portray the actress reflecting back on her career in 'EastEnders' and the 'Carry On' films as she prepares to take to the stage in one of her 90s theatrical productions.

'Tony knows the real me and what makes me tick and I was particularly taken by the way he wants to tell my tale which is not in the way people will expect it to be', she said. .Tony certainly has captured the moments of my life that have made me who I am today. I am honoured and excited that Tony and the BBC have commissioned this.'

Jordan commented on news of the new release in a statement. 'There's a reason that, as a nation, we've all taken Barbara to our hearts, I think it is because she's always been one of us, never forgetting where she came from', he said. 'That unbelievably rare combination of someone in the business with the highest level of professionalism, but without any of the airs and graces to go with it.

'She's a national treasure and one of the most remarkable women I've met. I only hope this film will do her justice.'
