Legendary crooner Barry Manilow has been rushed to hospital this week following complications in the aftermath of oral surgery he had undergone a few days earlier.

The 72 year old singer, famous for hits like 'Mandy', 'Copacabana' and 'Can't Smile Without You', performed a show in Memphis, Tennessee on Wednesday evening (February 10th), but he apparently hurried back to Los Angeles to get hospital treatment. As a result, two concerts in Highland Heights (Kentucky) and Nashville on Thursday and Friday had to be postponed and re-arranged.

A statement posted via his official Facebook page read: “Following a triumphant sold out concert in Memphis, Barry Manilow was rushed back to Los Angeles due to complications from emergency oral surgery… on Monday.”

“Ticket holders should retain their existing tickets for redemption on the night of the new date,” it reassured. However, it also cast doubt over Manilow’s scheduled performance at the Grammy Awards on Monday (February 15th).

“At this time it is unclear if Manilow will be able to attend the Grammy Awards… where he is nominated for his 15th Grammy Award for his latest album, My Dream Duets,” the statement continued.

Manilow has suffered a panoply of health scares throughout his career, the most dangerous and recurrent of which is his need to undergo regular dental treatment after a benign tumour in mouth ruptured in 1986. It isn’t confirmed whether it was an occurrence of this complaint which led to the singer’s hospitalisation this week.

His publicist, Victoria Varela, has however assured CNN that Manilow was “perfectly healthy”, has now left hospital and would be able to resume his live commitments soon. “Other than the dental issue, he is doing great,” she added.
