Cuban salsa legend JUAN PABLO TORRES died on Sunday (17APR05) in a Miami, Florida hospital. He was 59.

The CUBAN MASTERS trombonist had spent several days in a coma following the discovery of an inoperable brain tumour.

Torres was born in Puerto Padre, Cuba in 1946 and recorded with fellow Cuban musical greats Bebo Valdez, Tito Puente, Paquito D'Rivera and ARTURO SANDOVAL during his lengthy career.

Four years ago (01), Torres joined the Cuban Masters with CACHAO LOPEZ, PATATO VALDEZ, Jose Fajardo and ALFREDO 'CHOCOLATE' ARMENTEROS and they went on to receive both Grammy and LATIN GRAMMY nominations.

He is survived by his wife and six children.
