The romantic drama starring Bel Powley will compete in the Best Feature, Breakthrough Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actress categories, while Cate Blanchett's Carol has scored nods for the Best Actress, Best Feature and Best Screenplay trophies.

Heaven Knows What, Spotlight and Tangerine will go up against the films in the Best Feature category, while I'll See You in My Dreams' Blythe Danner, Room's Brie Larson, Grandma's Lily Tomlin, and Welcome to Me's Kristen Wiig have been nominated alongside Blanchett and Powley in the Best Actress category.

Meanwhile, James White's Christopher Abbott, Results' Kevin Corrigan, Love & Mercy's Paul Dano, Experimenter's Peter Sarsgaard and 99 Homes' Michael Shannon will battle it out for Best Actor, and Love & Mercy, Spotlight and While We're Young have been shortlisted for the Best Screenplay honour opposite Carol and The Diary of a Teenage Girl.

The prizegiving ceremony, which often picks out Oscar winners, takes place on 30 November (15) at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
