The Bet Awards were held last night (30th June) in L.A. Amongst the winners were Jamie Foxx, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Drake and Charlie Wilson.
The Bet Awards were held on Sunday (30th June 2013) at the Nokia Theater in L.A. This year, artists who achieved awards included Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Miguel, Drake and Charlie Wilson.
Charlie Wilson, pictured at the BET Awards Press Conference, won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Awards were first held in 2001 with the intention of celebrating minorities in the Arts. The Awards this year were hosted by comedian Chris Tucker. Will Smith, Samuel L.Jackson, Queen Latifah and Jamie Foxx have all hosted the Award ceremony in the past.
Nicki Minaj won, for the fourth year in a row, best female hip-hop artist. On her achievement she said "every time I win it's a humbling experience". She went on to say "my fans are amazing people".
Nicki Minaj, at the finale of American Idol, won the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist Award.
Soul singer Charlie Wilson took home the Lifetime Achievement Award. Wilson performed on stage, backed up by Justin Timberlake. Timberlake presented the singer with his award, saying "Charlie Wilson is soul music. His impact colors the work of many artists, which is basically my nice way of saying I and a lot of other artists have stolen from him".
Olympic Gold Medalist Gabrielle Douglas took home two Awards: one for Sportswoman of the Year, the other the Young Stars Award. Also winning two awards was Drake for his music video "Started From The Bottom", he achieved the Best Music Video Award and the Coca-Cola Viewer's Choice Award.
