Betty White is not dead - she is very much alive, and working, in-fact. Rumors of the veteran actress's death spread like wildfire across social media on Thursday (September 4, 2014) after some fans were duped by a satirical news story.

"Actress Betty White, 92, dyes peacefully in her Los Angeles home" read a headline published on the website Empire News. However, as suggested by the spelling, the story was a comedy article about White not being a natural blonde.

"Betty is a solitary kind of person," read the story, "She likes to relax in her home with her animals, and she rarely likes to discuss the fact, at least in public, that she is actually a brunette. She has been dying her own hair in her home for decades. Betty has often told me she feels it is relaxing and soothing to dye her own hair, peacefully in her home, where she can laugh and enjoy time with her animals. She's said on more than one occasion that as a blonde, she has had 'more fun' in her roles, and in life."

Anyway, some readers got confused and started posting tribute messages on Twitter - the news that Betty White had apparently passed away began trending.

Her agent Jeff Witjas - who was quoted in the satirical article - assured the Los Angeles Times, saying, "She is on the set shooting 'Hot in Cleveland' right now."

"No #BettyWhite is not dead and if you don't understand the difference between "dyes" and "dies" you need to go back to elementary school," said one Twitter user. Touché.
