Beyoncé is to perform during tonight's BRIT Awards ceremony in London, according to the award show's host, James Corden. The R&B singer has been announced as the evening's surprise act after a week of rumours. What's more, the US mega-star will apparently be playing a song that she has never played live before.

Speaking today on Radio 2, Corden said it was finally time to spill the beans. "There's this weird thing with this year's Brits where I've been - more than any other year - told things I can't say. "But I figure it's the day," the comedian said before making the grand announcement: "Beyonce. Beyonce is performing tonight. She's performing a track she has never ever performed live before. Ever," via The Independent.

Now that Beyoncé's presence tonight has been confirmed, the evening's previously announced big-name acts will have to work extra hard to make sure the 'Crazy In Love' star doesn't steal their thunder. It will also be interesting to see whether Bey's husband and rapper Jay Z makes an even more surprise performance by dropping in for a song, as he has been known to do at his wife's performances of late.

Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Ellie Goulding Arctic Monkeys, Rudimental, Bruno Mars, Bastille, and Lorde will all be appearing, as the BRITs pushes to equal the stellar standards of the recent Grammy Awards. An additional rumour has surfaced that Prince may make a surprise performance with his band, 3rdEyeGirl, after the funk star played several surprise shows in London last week.

Arctic Monkeys and Haim are the top two most-nominated acts of the awards, with six and eight noms respectively. The Sheffield rockers could be set to nab a historical double: the Best Album and Best Group awards. Only three bands have won the double twice, Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay and Manic Street Preachers, but the Monkeys are looking strong to make it a hat-trick.

The BRIT Awards will be broadcast live tonight with full coverage on ITV from 8pm-10.15pm.
