Completing another stellar year for one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Beyonce leads the field in the nominations for the 2017 Grammy Awards, picking up nine nominations in all.

The 35 year old has also consolidated her distinction of being the most-nominated woman in Grammy history, with a total of 62 nominations spanning her solo work and her time in Destiny’s Child. This year, she’s up for the main prize of Album of the Year for her ambitious visual album Lemonade, which was released in April.

The album’s lead single, ‘Formation’, has also been given the nod in Song and Record of the Year – the latter of which is intended to reward producers and engineers as well as artists.

In all three of those categories, she faces off against Adele, who won all three prizes back in 2012 and released her newest album 25 just over a year ago. This is the first awards season in which her new material is eligible.

Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West all closely followed behind Beyonce in the field, all with eight nominations each. Chicagoan star Chance The Rapper also grabbed seven nominations, with his newest mixtape Coloring Book making Grammy history as the first ever streaming-only record to be recognised by the Recording Academy.

Rounding out the Album of the Year category is Drake’s Views, Justin Bieber’s Purpose, and alt-country artist Sturgill Simpson’s A Sailor’s Guide to Earth.

Notable absentees from the list are Coldplay, who only picked up one nomination despite selling several million copies of their latest album A Head Full of Dreams. The late David Bowie’s Blackstar also didn’t make the Album of the Year, but it did appear in the Best Alternative Album category.

Meghan Trainor, who won Best New Artist back in February at the 2016 Awards, announced the key nominations on CBS’ ‘This Morning’ on Tuesday (December 6th). The ceremony itself takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12th, with James Corden hosting.
