Billie Joe Armstrong only remembers ''tiny things'' about the outburst which led him to rehab.

The Green Day singer and was treated for substance abuse after a disastrous episode when the band played at the iHeartRadio festival in Las Vegas, leading to the cancellation of tour dates and promotion of the band's trilogy of albums, '¡Uno!', '¡Dos!' and '¡Tré!'.

Speaking about the incident, which happened last September, he told Rolling Stone magazine: ''I remember tiny things. The next morning, I woke up. I asked [my wife] Adrienne, 'How bad was it?' She said, 'It's bad.' I called my manager. He said, 'You're getting on a plane, going back to Oakland [California] and going into rehab immediately.' ''

The 41-year-old singer says he went through years of alcohol and prescription medicine abuse, which got so bad he'd frequently black out.

He added: ''I couldn't predict where I was going to end up at the end of the night.

''I'd wake up in a strange house on a couch. I wouldn't remember how. It was a complete blackout.''

During the iHeartRadio festival even Billie's bandmates Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt were stunned at his behaviour, after they were told by teleprompter the band's set was being cut short and they only had one minute left to play.

In response, Billie shouted: ''You're going to give me one minute? One f**king minute? I've been around since f**king 19 f**king 80 f**king eight, and you're going to give me one f**king minute? I'm not f**king Justin Bieber, you motherf**kers.''

He then destroyed his guitar and left the stage.
