The Comedian - Clip & Trailer

Once, Jackie Burke was one of the biggest names in town; he was a comedian with his own show on a prime network and his life looked like he was set. Now, aging and working as a stand-up comic, Jackie wants to reinvent himself and forget about all the old jokes he used to tell and characters he used to play but that's far from what the bookers and audience members want - they wish to see the old Jackie Burke performing his known material.

One night Jackie takes to the stage and he can only take a certain amount of crowd heckling, fed up he lashes out at an audience member and as a result, the comedian is incarcerated and made to carry out a community service order.

Though Jackie had to serve a short sentence, the footage of Jackie hitting the heckler has made him an internet sensation and introduced a whole load of new fans to him.

Small Apartments Trailer

Franklin Franklin is a wig-donning, Swiss wannabe loner who lives alone in a small apartment having previously lived with his mentally deranged brother Bernard. He's not the only eccentric character at the complex, however; his wacky neighbours include the Liquor store worker Tommy Balls, Tommy's herpes ridden girlfriend Rocky, the beautiful Simone and the ill-tempered Mr. Allspice. One day, Franklin finds himself in a spot of bother when he accidentally murders his landlord Mr. Olivetti when he pays him a visit about the rent (of lack of it). In an attempt to cover up the homicide, he clumsily stages it as a suicide, which the cops become very suspicious of. Things don't get any easier either, as his Franklin's brother dies suddenly from a brain tumour and he ends up getting badly beaten in the street. Will Franklin find that future that he dreams of? Or will his tedious life gradually spiral further out of control?

Small Apartments Review

Good

Relentlessly quirky and strange, this pitch black comedy manages to combine its outrageous silliness with some surprising emotional resonance. Swedish filmmaker Akerlund (who directed Lady Gaga's Telephone) keeps the film's pace snappy as it lurches through a series of crazy situations that aren't remotely believable. But the starry cast manages to hold our interest.

Everything centres on a run-down apartment complex in Los Angeles, where Franklin (Lucas) lives in his dumpy flat, dreaming of someday moving to Switzerland to play his alpine horn in the mountains. Clearly unhinged, Franklin desperately misses his brother Bernard (Marsden), who went away but still sends him a daily audio-tape message. Then on the first day a tape fails to turn up, Franklin's whole life starts to unravel, starting with the fact that his landlord (Stormare) is lying dead on his kitchen floor. Franklin's attempt to get rid of the body draws the attention of two detectives (Crystal and Koechner), who start quizzing the neighbours (Knoxville and Caan). But this is only the start of Franklin's big adventure.

The story is structured as a series of wacky set-pieces set apart by luridly colourful flashbacks and fantasy sequences that fill in the back-stories for each of the characters. As a result, everyone on screen bursts with personality as well as motivations for everything they do, which makes watching them a lot more interesting than we expect. Crystal and Caan emerge as the most engaging people on screen, but even nuttier characters like Lundgren's "Brain Brawn" pop psychologist are fun to watch. By contrast, Lucas gives Franklin an eerily blank face: this is a man who still hasn't figured out who he is.

Mike And Sulley Return To Our Screens As Students At The Monsters University (Pictures)

Billy Crystal John Goodman Pete Docter Andrew Stanton

Mike and Sulley return in the long-awaited Monsters University trailer, the Monsters Inc. prequel set to hit movie theatres globally in summer 2013 with a cast of brand new Monsters University characters.

It's been more than 10 years since the Oscar winning animation Monsters Inc. hit our screens in 2001, but even though those who were young enough to enjoy it then have probably grown out of it by now (or, at least, say they have), there's no question that this hilarious prequel will still be a must-see for all you Mike and Sulley lovers out there. It sees the two beastly individuals (voiced by Billy Crystal and John Goodman) in their college years, majoring in 'scaring' and victimising each other in an array of schoolboy pranks as they compete against each other to be the scariest monster around. Funnily enough, plenty of the kids who watched Monsters Inc. when it first came out will quite possibly be going through similar experiences in their own lives as students, which makes the timing of Monsters University charmingly apt.

The movie sees a brand new director, Dan Scanlon, who is likely to breathe fresh life into this memorable CGI flick though the previous director, Pete Docter, has made his return in the role of screenwriter alongside previous co-writer Andrew Stanton. Monsters University is soon to be released on UK cinema screens on July 12th 2013.

A Week In Movies: Beautiful Creatures Opens, Tom Cruise Visits A Post-apocalyptic Earth And Billy Crystal And John Goodman Reunite In Monsters University

Judd Apatow Nicholas Sparks Bruce Willis Gerard Butler Aaron Eckhart Tom Cruise Keri Russell Billy Crystal John Goodman

Jeremy Irons & Alice Englert in Beautiful Creatures

Being Valentine's Day week, cinemas are flooded with romantic movies like the new teen franchise-launcher Beautiful Creatures. US audiences can also weep their way through the new Nicholas Sparks drama Safe Haven, while in the UK couples instead can laugh at Judd Apatow's epic rom-com This Is 40 and the clunky British farce Run For Your Wife. And for alternative viewing, there's the ultimate date movie A Good Day to Die Hard, Bruce Willis' fifth instalment in the crashing, exploding franchise.

And this kind of action dominates the week's new selection of trailers, starting with the very explosive-looking Olympus Has Fallen, starring Gerard Butler as a Secret Service agent trying to retake the White House after a terrorist invasion. The muscly cast includes Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart, Angela Bassett and Melissa Leo. It opens in March.

Mike and Sulley haven't always been the best of friends that we know they were working at Monsters Inc. When they were amateurs and roommates both majoring in 'scaring' at the Monsters University, there was constant competition between the pair as Mike struggled to keep up with Sulley's natural big, hairy monster persona; Mike and his small physique and rather unscary retainer made him the favourite subject of mockery by Sulley and his friends despite their being in the same fraternity. It soon becomes clear, however, that they are better off together than alone while Mike has the brains and Sulley has the brawn.

Parental Guidance Review

Good

Cynical audiences will hate this simplistic, softhearted comedy, but for a bit of undemanding entertainment, it isn't too bad. And while the cast members don't remotely stretch themselves in these roles, they at least manage to get the emotion flowing in the predictable final act. And sometimes a bit of mindless silliness is just what we need.

Crystal and Midler play Artie and Diane, grandparents who have little contact with their uptight daughter Alice (Tomei), who lives on the other side of the country. When she decides to accompany her inventor husband (Scott) to an awards ceremony, she reluctantly agrees to let her parents take care of their three over-protected kids: burgeoning teen daughter Harper (Madison), shy son Turner (Rush) and mop-headed Barker (Breitkopf), a bundle of cheeky energy who immediately renames his granddad "Fartie". Of course, tech-phobic Artie and hug-loving Diane struggle to keep up with these children they barely know, but they're more resilient and far cleverer than Alice gives them credit for.

The script never tries to be sophisticated, announcing its important life lessons early on and never putting any of the characters in danger of not learning something. Meanwhile, the writers continually contrive the plot to keep Tomei on screen as much as possible, even though this kind of undermines the whole point of the grandparents being there in the first place. And every challenge faced by each character (there's a mini-plot for everyone) is fairly easy to navigate. But all of the actors manage to underplay the physical chaos while bringing enough charm to the film to keep us engaged.

Next year looks set to be a seminal year for movies. There have been plenty of dodgy trailers come out for 2013 releases, but here are ten of the trailers we consider worthy of your time!

Professional 'scarers' at Monsters Inc., Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan (nicknamed Mike and Sulley) haven't always been so scary. 'Monsters University' tells the story of the duo's time at the University of Fear, about ten years previous, where they took their education in scaring children and often practised on each other with various college pranks that obviously united them in the end.

Monsters, Inc. Review

Excellent
The Pixar boys are at again with Monsters, Inc. taking their computer-animation talents from toys and insects to the magical world of monsters.

Magical indeed -- the way it works is that all those monsters that hide in the closet and scare little kids only do so because they have to -- they use the screams as energy to power Monstropolis, which exists just on the other side of every kid's bedroom closet door in the world.

Analyze This Review

Weak

Yes, "Analyze This" has many generous burstsof hilarity, especially with Robert De Niro goofing on the kind of mobsterroles that made him by playing a mafioso with high anxiety.

Yes, casting him as a hoodlum headcase opposite Billy Crystalas his reluctant shrink is damn funny all by itself.

No, this isn't enough to carry the picture. In fact "AnalyzeThis" degrades so dramatically that in the last act Crystal is reducedto ad libbing through an over-long mock-wise guy schtick, taking his bestshot at Robin Williams-dom and tanking.
