Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am and Dj/producer David Guetta have each won over $1 million (£588,235) in compensation after a Texas songwriter accused the hitmakers of copyright infringement over their song I Gotta Feeling.

Bryan Pringle filed suit in a Santa Ana, California court in 2010, claiming the pair lifted elements of the catchy tune from a dance version of his 1999 track Take a Dive.

Pringle demanded damages, including all net profits from the Black Eyed Peas' 2009 release, as well as future credits and royalty payments.

However, it later emerged that Pringle had not registered the copyright for Take a Dive until after he filed suit against the stars.

The judge overseeing the case also ruled the songs were not similar enough for the plaintiff to prevail and will.i.am, I Gotta Feeling producer Guetta and representatives at their record labels Interscope and Universal Music Group subsequently requested compensation for legal fees.

Their motion was granted on 23 July (14).
