Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the sequel to Blade Runner. The 34-year-old actor will be joined by Harrison Ford, who played Rick Deckard in the original 1982 film. Ford will reprise his role but it is uncertain which part Gosling, if negotiations are successful, will play.

The original movie was set in a dystopian Los Angeles in 2019 and followed Deckard, a 'blade runner' as he is forced to destroy a number of androids 'replicants' who are on earth illegally. The upcoming sequel will be set a number of decades later. 

Ford is not the only member of the original cast of Blade Runner to be returning as Ridley Scott, who directed the original, will produce the upcoming sequel. One of the sequel writers, Hampton Fancher, also worked on the original.

Denis Villeneuve, known for his films Prisoners and Enemy, will direct. Another writer, Michael Green, will also be working on the script alongside Fancher. Green is well renowned for his work in science fiction films and television. Green wrote the script for Green Lantern and won an Emmy Award for his work on Heroes. 

Gosling, who is best known for Drive and The Place Beyond the Pines, made his directional debut in 2014 with Lost River. His next films are Shane Black's The Nice Guys, also starring Russell Crowe, and Adam McKay's The Big Short, starring Brad Pitt and Christian Bale
