Blur played their upcoming The Magic Whip album in its entirety last night, during a special fanclub-only gig at London club Mode. 300 of the band’s most dieheard fans were in attendance for the intimate show, as the band showcased their first LP in 12 years track by track.

Opening the gig singer Damon Albarn addressed the crowd saying, "So obviously, we're going to play our new record The Magic Whip in sequence from beginning to end. Are you ready?” The band then launched into opening track 'Lonesome Street’.

Tickets for the gig were only available to fan club members who had taken part in a competition and were then entered into a ballot. Earlier in the night the band had played the same set for a friends and family only audience.

As the gig ended Albarn told the audience "Thank you that was The Magic Whip. We're going to play one last song, one we've not played for 20 years. But thank you all." The band then proceeded to play 'Trouble In The Message Centre’, from their seminal 1994 album Parklife.

The Magic Whip marks the band’s long awaited return to recording after 2003’s Think Tank. It will also be the first Blur album to feature original guitarist Graham Coxon since 1999’s 13.
