Celebs Could Face Huge Tax Bills After Tax Avoidance Legal Ruling

David Beckham Ant and Dec Bob Geldof Wayne Rooney Gary Lineker

A number of big-name celebrities including David Beckham, Gary Lineker and Ant & Dec are among those who have lost a legal big to overturn a tax bill of £700 million.

They are among more than 1,000 people who invested in the Ingenious film financing scheme in order to gain tax relief. The scheme, which helped produce massive movies such as Avatar, qualified for tax breaks designed to boost the British film industry.

However, HMRC contended that the scheme relied on artificial losses from the movies concerned, and that meant that Ingenious was not a legitimate investment opportunity but a tax avoidance vehicle.

Members of the Russian punk activist group Pussy Riot have disowned their two most high-profile members, Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, for having forgotten about the "aspirations and ideals of [the] group." Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova, known as Masha and Nadia, were released from a 16-month prison stint in Russia after having performed their anti-Putin protest song, 'Punk Prayer,' in a Moscow cathedral in 2012.

Heavy media interest and intense human rights lobbying played a part in the women's release and has brought certain Russian freedom of speech injustices to light. On the eve of the Winter Olympic Games, currently being held in the Russian city of Sochi, the pair performed alongside Madonna at Amnesty International's Bringing Human Rights Home concert at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn last night, where the Flaming Lips, Yoko Ono, Bob Geldof, Lauryn Hill, The Fray Blondie and Imagine Dragons also contributed.

Isle Of White Festival Line Up Sees The Boomtown Rats Reunite

Bob Geldof Boomtown Rats

Bob Geldof's band, The Boomtown Rats will reform to perform at The Isle of White festival, The Guardian understands. It will be the first time they've played together since 1986.

"Playing again with the Rats and doing those great songs again will be exciting afresh," said Geldof. "We were an amazing band and I just feel it's the right time to re-Rat, to go back to Boomtown for a visit." The Boomtown Rats formed in 1975 in Dublin, going on to have a string of hit singles. They are best known for their song I Don't Like Mondays, which went to No 1 in 1979. Geldof said that the Isle of Wight festival was the perfect stage for the comeback because he "always fancied playing [there], ever since I hitched there in the good/bad days when I was a kid. I saw the Who, Doors (I think), Hendrix and Leonard Cohen, who incidentally blew Hendrix off the stage ... I also told several very boring frog anarchist types to go and fuck themselves and then stayed for a night in Hawkwind's tent. That's pretty IOW."

Isle of Wight promoter John Giddings said: "It's great they have chosen the Isle of Wight festival as their reunion. Our audience will love them, their catalogue is classic..."

She might have been releasing a book last night (November 15), but there was nothing bookish about the behavior of supermodel Kate Moss and her guests in London, with more than a few stars being spotted leaving 50 St James somewhat dishevelled in the early hours. It had been a busy day for Moss, who'd been signing copies of her book earlier in the day at the Marc Jacobs store in Mayfair, but she was in no mood to let tiredness put her off partying - and neither were the rest of the revellers. Cara Develingne was among those seen leaving the venue somewhat worse for wear in the early hours, whilst a host of British stars also were in raucous spirits, including Noel Gallagher, football player Peter Crouch and girlfriend Abbey Clancy, Florence Welch, Pixie Geldof and her dad Bob, Stella McCartney, Radio One DJ Nick Grimshaw, Christopher Biggins and Jo Wood.

Kate Moss Lived With Noel Gallagher In The 1990s?

Kate Moss Noel Gallagher Bob Geldof Florence Welch Alison Mosshart Donna Karan

Kate Moss held a predictably lavish launch party for her new book, Kate: The Kate Moss Book at 50 St James Street, London, this week. After spending the early evening signing copies of the tome at Marc Jacobs' bookshop in Mayfair, Moss arrived at the bash to be greeted by the likes of Bob Geldof, Noel Gallagher, Florence Welch, Alison Mosshart and Donna Karan

WWD.com's reporter said "It was hard to move at the party for Kate Moss' new book without coming nose-to-nose with a glass of Veuve Clicquot - or a famous person," and they caught up with Mr Gallagher to chat about the heady 1990s when his group Oasis and Ms Moss moved in similar circles. "She actually lived with me for a while," he revealed, "There would be more people waiting outside my flat to see her than there were for me. I would pop out to the shops and people would ask me, 'Is Kate in? Can you get me her autograph?" The pair met at a part in 1994, though Manchester-born Noel had no idea who Kate was, despite her being the most famous model in the world. "I had just moved down from Manchester and was not that familiar with the London scene. Two weeks later, I was in America and her face was everywhere, on billboards, on every magazine." As WWD.com's reporter moved downstairs, the party appeared to get worse. Quickly. Moss was seen high fiving DJ Nick Grimshaw and Sharleen Spiteri "took advantage of the club's secret smoking area."

Kate: The Kate Moss Book is available at all good book stores - and some rubbish ones - now.

Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen - Live In Budapest Review

Excellent

Shot in 1986 and only just now remastered for release in the West, this documentary captures Queen in all their glory both on stage and behind the scenes. The film is divided into two parts, opening with a 27-minute exploration of the band in the "magic year" after its triumphant Live Aid performance, during which they recorded an album, scored the adventure movie The Highlander and planned a massive European tour.

Then we cut to their concert in Budapest, their first performance in Hungary, which drew 80,000 fans from throughout the Eastern Bloc. When Freddie Mercury takes the stage, the crowd goes wild, and he holds them in rapturous attention all the way through. He even performs some Hungarian folk music along the way, but they're far more interested in the band's big hits like Radio Gaga and Bohemian Rhapsody, which they sing along with loudly.

Queen rarely gave interviews, so the backstage material in this film is a fascinating glimpse into these musicians, who are all self-effacing and rather cheeky. Mercury even starts flirting with the interviewer, noting that he's not worried about struggling to connect with the foreign crowd. "I always win an audience," he says with a mischievous grin. And during the concert section of the film, we also get to see them getting out and about in Budapest, seeing the sites, meeting locals and generally clowning around.
