One Direction, Chris Martin And Ed Sheeran Among The Line-Up For Band Aid 30

One Direction, Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, Paloma Faith and Sam Smith are among the stars who will be joining Bob Geldof for a new recording of charity classic ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’

One Direction will be part of Band Aid 30

30 years after the first Band Aid helped raise over £8million for Ethiopian famine victims, this time proceeds from the single will go towards halting the spread of ebola in West Africa.

U2 singer Bono will also be part of the new line-up, the only artist from the original recording to return. Other artists confirmed for the song include Bastille, Elbow, Emeli Sande, Foals, Jessie Ware, Sinead O'Connor and Underworld.

This time around the original lyrics have been “retweaked" so the focus will be less on hunger. The recording will take place this Saturday (November 25th) and the song will be available to download from Monday, November 17.

Geldof has said he also asked David Bowie to record an introduction for the single, while Turner Prize nominee Tracey Emin will create the artwork for the record.

"It really doesn't matter if you don't like this song, it really doesn't matter if you hate all the artists. What you have to do is buy this thing," said Geldof.

In 1984 the first ‘Do They Know It's Christmas?’ recording stayed at number one for five weeks, selling 3.7 million copies. It featured some of the biggest-selling artists of the decade, including Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, U2, George Michael, Bananarama and Culture Club.

Ten years ago the single was recorded again, this time by artists such as Will Young, Jamelia, Busted, and Chris Martin. Mercury prize winner Dizzee Rascal also contributed a rap to the 2004 version.
