AMC know Better Call Saul will drag in viewers, regardless of how the Breaking Bad remake goes - whether Vince Gilligan totally screws it up or actually provides a meaningful addition to the lore. That’s why they’ve renewed it before season one, episode one has even aired.

The first series of the show will premiere in early 2015, with the second set to hit screens in 2016. It’s very much a two good-one bad situation for AMC, who announced the delay, the renewal and released a first look picture all in the same day.

AMC president Charlie Collier said: "Production on Better Call Saul is under way, and we could not be more proud of, nor more excited about, the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series, and today we happily

confirm that our initial Saul order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes. When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. No half measures."

Gilligan and Peter Gould, creator of the Saul Goodman character, are directing the premiere episode as you can see in the first released photo. But there are other Breaking Bad alums returning: Thomas Schnauz and Gennifer Hutchison also coming back to write. Filming began at an Albuquerque skate park earlier this month, with Bob Odenkirk being spotted back in the role of a slightly younger Saul.
