Produced by BBC Scotland/BBC Productions and BOCPIX in association with RTE, the comedy follows Mrs Brown and her tight-knit family in all sorts of ridiculous escapades, from dildos at funerals to robot babies. Yep, this is kid’s humour for adults.

The show has attracted plenty of fans despite its crude and lewd style; many Father Ted fans find something to love in it because of its ‘silly’ comedic cadence. Either way, it promises to be a family favourite come Christmas time, as people across the land settle down to a packed roster of festival telly.

Mrs Brown’s Boys has been on tour recently, hitting all corners of the UK with its brand of eccentric comedy. “Critics like to sniff that the show isn't funny, but the 40,000 Belfast fans who bought tickets seem to disagree,” said the Belfast Telegraph’s Andrew Johnston of the tour. “And accusations of the Irish sitcom being parochial don't hold water, as it's also filling arenas across the UK.”

In other Christmas telly news, drama fans are eagerly awaiting two BBC behemoths, Sherlock and Dr. Who, as the two iconic shows gear up for their own specials. The former kicks off season 3 with the tagline, ‘Sherlock Lives’, while the latter sees Matt Smith hand the Who baton over to Peter Capaldi in the Christmas special.

Whatever you watch, with channels vying for your viewing pleasures at each turn, the Christmas television schedule is set to be packed with treats, and Mrs Brown’s Boys is one of the silliest, funniest treats.
