Bright Eyes star Conor Oberst has followed through on his threat to take legal action against the woman who accused him of raping her as a teenager.

Last month (Jan14), the singer/songwriter announced he was considering legal action following the online allegations which linked him to a sexual assault a decade ago, and now he has launched a defamation lawsuit against a woman he has identified as Joanie Faircloth.

He claims she is the unnamed individual who left a series of posts in the comment section of an article about abusive rock stars on XOJane.com in December (13), claiming the Bright Eyes star had raped her after a 2003 show in New York, when she was 16.

Oberst insists the encounter is made up, and he has never even met her.

In his lawsuit, obtained by Tmz.com, the singer claims her lies have damaged his reputation.
