We are again right in the middle of awards season, and that doesn't just mean the Oscars. The Brit Awards have announced their 2014 nominations, and there aren't many surprises.

The two leading artists are, as they should be, British acts. According to MTV, Disclosure and Bastille were each nominated for four awards, but the rest of the nominations were for artists all over the world.

Drake, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Pink, Eminem, Lorde, Arcade Fire, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and others were nominated. One Direction is up for two awards, to the delight of many of their fans. The British band was not nominated for any Grammy Awards, which was a surprise to many 1D-ers, but they have been nominated at basically every other music award show in the last year.

The awards are split up between British and international acts, and the award show works to honor work from Brits from the past year. Other big British names up for awards include David Bowie, James Blake (who was also nominated for Best New Artist at the 2014 Grammy Awards), Ellie Goulding and Jessie J.

The awards show held a nominations ceremony on Thursday (January 9) in London, with many of the nominees in attendance. According to the Mirror, none of the attendees felt very festive. It looks like many of them showed up in either black or white — or a combination of the two.

The Brit Awards will roll out the red carpet on 19 February at the O2 Arena in London.
