One of the most talked about romances of the MTV reality TV show 'The Hills' may have not even been real.

Brody Jenner and Lauren Conrad had a storied relationship on the popular series, but apparently they never really dated.

The son of Bruce Jenner opened up about his relationship with Conrad on his new podcast this past Thursday (July 3rd), titled 'The Brody Jenner Podcast with Dr. Mike Dow.'

Dow began to probe Brody about his alleged past girlfriends, which included Avril Lavine, Nicole Richie, and 'Hills' co-stars Kristin Cavallari and Lauren Conrad.

And this is the moment when fans quickly learned their love story was just a front for the show.

"That's false. Lauren Conrad and I never dated," the 30 year-old said. "Lauren and I have always been just friends. We worked together on a show called 'The Hills' where we had to pretend like we were dating, but we never dated."

Even though it was obvious that parts of 'The Hills' was scripted for the viewers, this revelation will still come as a big surprise, especially since it contradicts with what Conrad said in an interview with Allure in 2012.

"I think the story [the show] told wasn't a dishonest one," she said to the mag. "Brody and I did date."

So what is the truth? Well according to Brody, another 'Hills' romance he was involved with was also purely for the camera.

"I dated Kristin [Cavallari] when we were very young," he said of their relationship. "When she was on 'Laguna Beach' and I was on a show called 'Princes of Malibu' with Spencer Pratt . we met at a party in Hollywood . but during ('The Hills') when we filmed, Kristin and I did not date, we were not hooking up."
