The veteran presenter underwent the operation to fix an abdominal aortic aneurysm, a swelling of the main artery from the heart, on 12 November (15) and he was expected to have recovered in time to present a Christmas special of TV talent show Strictly Come Dancing.

However, BBC bosses have now announced it is "too early for Sir Bruce Forsyth to have made a full recovery" from the operation before the show's taping next week (beg07Dec15).

"Due to the long studio hours, he is unable to host the show, but will still play a part in the production," they added.

The episode, which will feature dances from contestants including MCFly star Harry Judd and George Clooney's ex-girlfriend Lisa Snowdon, is due to air in the U.K. on Christmas Day (25Dec15).
