The 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards kick off this Sunday, 23rd September at 8pm E.T (that’s 1am GMT for you British TV buffs). This year could see Mad Men take an unprecedented fifth award for Best Drama, but Breaking Bad is set to upset those odds by taking home the big one.

Either way, it looks to be a fine year for AMC as the network harbour the two frontrunners to pick up the drama mantle. Breaking Bad – as you know because you’re reading an Emmy’s preview – focuses on the life choices of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) who decides to manufacture crystal meth to support his family. Now in a brief hiatus - it’s fifth and final season is split into two halves - BB has become one of the most loved TV shows on television, and will definitely give those swanky 50’s advertising types a run for their money. Cranston is also in line to receive his 4th Emmy Award for his performances in the show. Elsewhere in the drama category lurk some brilliant contenders, with Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones and Homeland completing the list.

Elsewhere, the drama category will be a fight between The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, Modern Family, 30 Rock and Veep, with Modern Family the hot favourite to take home the prize.
