Breaking Bad ended up being such a huge success, it’s not surprising that the wake of the series isn’t over yet (“wake” being a key word here). The latest promotional stunt is to be a funeral for chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-kingpin Walter White, but this time, it will be for a good cause. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the event is being hosted by a charity from Walt’s native Albuquerque. It will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 4:30 p.m. in New Mexico's Sunset Memorial Park.

Walter White is dead, but not burried

The rather unconventional event was reportedly organized by Jackamoe Buzzell, a Breaking Bad fan who had the idea after seeing an obituary for the fictional character in a local paper last week. Plently of people have gotten on board with the idea so far, including the show’s set decorator Michael Flowers, who has agreed to deliver a eulogy. In addition, Buzzell managed to get the owner of acclaimed restaurant Vernon's Hidden Valley Steakhouse to host a reception, starting at 8 p.m. Buzzell plays a mobster at the speakeasy-themed restaurant. The great response to the idea is largely due to the positive effect Breaking Bad has had on the Albequerque economy and television and film production industry and its popularity, which spawned a few tours devoted to the show's most famous sites. The idea to turn the symbolic funeral into a charity event came from Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston, a family acquaintance of Buzzell’s, who suggested that the event raise money for Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless.

Not yet, at least.

"I think this pays tribute to his memory, and I think he would love this if he could see it from the heavens," Buzzell told The Hollywood Reporter. "One thing someone told me is, 'Hey, it's one gangster taking care of another gangster' in fictional ways."

Despite this being one of the most uplifting stories to come out of the Breaking Bad finale, we can’t help but cast a doubt on the idea of a fictional drug lord seeing anything from the heavens. Buzzell, on the other hand, might get his “Good Deed of the Day” card punched. The enthusiastic Breaking Bad fan is going through all the motions of a funeral, including an actual headstone for White, but what he actually hopes to achieve is the goal of raising $100 000 in aid of Health Care for the Homeless.
