It's a good job internet hype detective Busta Rhymes is around to sift through the trolls and tell us who's for real in the big ol' plastic world of celebrity. The rapper claims to have watched the clip of DJ Khaled's proposal to 'Super Bass' singer Nicki Minaj via MTV at least 30 times to ascertain whether the rapper and DJ's public display of admiration was bonafide or pack-o-lies.

The clip broadcast last Thursday (25th July) shows the record producer and radio personality Khaled addressed the 30 year-old, multi-personality rapper (famed for her gigantic booty) directly: "Nicki Minaj, I'm at MTV, I'm going to be honest with you; I love you. I like you, I want you, I want you to be mine," asking "Nicki Minaj, will you marry me?" as he produced a 10-carat diamond ring that has been valued at $500K.

Fellow hip hop star Busta Rhymes has clearly had a bit of a bee in his bonnet about the whole affair, scrutinising the proposal to check for signs of deceit: "I definitely rewinded the MTV piece that he did it through about 30 times because I just wanted to see if he was joking, or if he was serious."

Speaking on Rap Fix Live, the performer revealed his conclusion: "I definitely felt like it was closer to real than BS because we know Khaled," he added. "Khaled don't do that. He'll hype something up and joke around but that was a different kind of leap. If it was a campaign for the record, it was a brand-new, whole 'nother angle that I ain't never seen Khaled come from before, so it was definitely surprising for me."

Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj Has Said Khaled's Proposal Was A Stunt.

Well, Mr. Busta "Detective" Rhymes sir, it appears you are mistaken. Speaking to Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex on 29th July, as reported by The Daily Mail, the 'Starships' singer who has worked with Khaled, said she never took the proposal seriously, saying "I was shocked just like the rest of the world. I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world 'cause Khaled is a master at what he does."

If Khaled forked out for the half million dollar ring then that's a pretty pricey prank to play. If we'd been secretly rejected by Minaj, we would say it had all been a joke too
